The place is located in the middle of the mountains of the Great Caucasus , a good 200 km as the crow flies northwest of the state capital Tbilisi and 45 km northwest of the regional capital Ambrolauri on the right bank of the Zcheniszqali , a right tributary of the Rioni , above the confluence of the two right tributaries Laskadura and Cheledula . The valley of the Zcheniszqali forms the southern part of the historical province of Svaneti , called Lower Svaneti (Kwemo Svaneti) , enclosed between the 3000 m high Letschchumi Mountains in the southeast and the up to 4009 m ( Laila-Lelechi , 20 km northwest of Lentechi) Svaneti Mountains . The latter borders in the north of Lower Svaneti from Upper Svaneti (Semo Svaneti) , which with its capital Mestia is now part of the Mingrelia and Upper Svaneti region .

As the administrative center of a Rajon of the Georgian SSR, the village of Lentechi received the status of an urban-type settlement in 1969 (corresponding to today's daba , small town).

Economy and Infrastructure
In the area around Lentechi there is agriculture for the local supply. Tourism plays a certain role: the place is the starting point for mountain tours. The construction of a hotel is planned.
Lentechi is connected to the Georgian road network via the national road Sch15 ( შ 15 ), which leads - initially through the Tcheniszqali valley - via Zageri and Zqaltubo , where the nearest train station is, to the city of Kutaisi , a good 100 km away . In the other direction, the road from Lentechi runs up the river valley to the higher-lying villages of Lower Svaneti in order to change as the national road Sch7 ( შ 7 ) over the 2623 m high Sagaro Pass into the upper Enguri valley, which already belongs to Upper Svaneti (the section above the pass is a difficult to drive, unpaved road).
