Career

At the beginning of August 1997, the Dutch Eredivisie club FC Groningen signed the then 20-year-old right-back Leonardo together with Hugo Alves Velame from Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . The Brazilian made his debut on August 20, 1997 in a 3-0 victory over FC Volendam ; he came in the following four years on seven hits in 118 league games for the Groninger in the Eredivisie and the Eerste Divisie .

For the 2001/02 season he moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam , where he also played in the Champions League . With Feyenoord, Leonardo celebrated the greatest success of his career in his first year by winning the UEFA Cup . In the final, he came on for Robin van Persie in the 63rd minute , in the competition he had already made four more appearances as a substitute and scored a goal in the third round in a 2-2 draw against SC Freiburg . During his time at Feyenoord he was called Leonardo II because at that time Leonardo Santiago was also playing for Feyenoord. In order to collect match practice, dos Santos Silva moved in the winter break of the 2002/03 season until the end of the season to BV De Graafschap based in Doetinchem . Feyenoord loaned Leonardo to ADO Den Haag until his contract ended in summer 2004 .

One season later, Leonardo moved to MVV Maastricht . The 2006/07 season he played at FC Dordrecht in the Eersten Divisie . After the end of the season he moved to the Spanish third division club Lorca Deportiva , which he left at the end of the year in the direction of Colombia to Deportes Quindío . In February 2009 he completed a league game for the Brazilian club Veranópolis ECREC . He then ended his career at FC Emmen , back in the Netherlands, for which he made 19 appearances in the Eersten Divisie between 2009 and 2011.
