Military career

Initially, Wietersheim was taught at home, attended the Pädagogium Halle from 1715 and the Friedrichs University from mid-October 1718 . Because of his height, Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau persuaded him to join his regiment and so in 1719 he became a flag junior in the “Thadden” regiment . The following year he became an ensign . In August 1723 he was transferred to the body regiment of Friedrich Wilhelm I. Wietersheim was captain when Friedrich II became king in 1740. In June of that year the king appointed him lieutenant colonel and transferred him to the infantry regiment "von Braunschweig" . In 1741 he was sent to Denim to take over the Schwarzburg regiment there and in May 1742 he became its commander.

In May 1743 the king appointed him colonel . In this function he led the regiment from the Soldin quarter to Bohemia . At the end of 1745 it besieged Cosel . On May 18, 1750 he became major general, but initially remained in command of the regiment.

On September 30, 1752 he became chief of the "Derschau" regiment . In August 1756 with the beginning of the Seven Years' War he marched to Saxony . After the surrender of the Saxon troops in Pirna , he received the regiment "von Rochow" for training, which consisted of captured Saxons. At the end of 1757 the regiment was disbanded and the men were distributed. When Samuel Adolph von Kalckreuth retired, Wietersheim got his regiment , which also consisted of Saxony. In the battle of Breslau he commanded the “Brandeis” regiment and the “Kalkreuth” battalion on the right wing of the formation. He then led the attack on Pillnitz and stayed in Saxony for the rest of 1758. In December 1758 he went to winter quarters in Zwickau with his troops . Here he became seriously ill, so that he was unfit for service. He was released in 1759 and retired to his estate in Wörbzig. He died there in 1761.
