Ernst August Leopold Neander von Petersheyden (born June 3, 1790 in Berlin , † August 18, 1863 in Görlitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Leopold Neander von Petersheyden was the son of the Prussian captain of the field artillery Karl Gottlieb Neander von Petersheyden (1762–1842) and his wife Johanna Friederike Wilhelmine, née Pasenow.

Military career

Neander von Petersheyden visited the Berlin Cadet House and was transferred as a private corporal to the von Möllendorff infantry regiment of the Prussian Army during the Fourth Coalition War on October 19, 1806 . On December 1, 1806, he came to the 3rd Neumärkische Reserve Battalion as a portepeefähnrich and took part in the defense of Kolberg .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Neander was appointed ensign on July 1, 1807 and transferred to the Leib-Infanterie-Regiment on June 7, 1808 , where he was promoted to second lieutenant on August 20, 1807 . In the campaign against Russia in 1812 he fought in the battles near Kosakenkrug, Garossenkrug, Schlockhof, Samsonkrug and Dahlenkirchen. Petersheyden was wounded at Katharinenhof. After the campaign he was transferred to the 2nd Guards Regiment on June 19, 1813 , with which he participated in the Wars of Liberation . He received the Iron Cross II class in the battle of Großgörschen and took part in the battles near Bautzen , Leipzig and Paris as well as in the battles near Bernburg, Colditz, Königswartha, Siegersdorf and Obergraupen. At that time he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on January 5, 1814 .

After the peace he rose to captain and company commander on March 20, 1816 . By the end of March 1840 von Petersheyden was promoted to lieutenant colonel. He was commissioned on March 25, 1841 with the command of the 20th Infantry Regiment , appointed regiment commander on January 13, 1842 and promoted in this capacity to colonel on April 7, 1841 . This was followed by a position as commander of the 1st Landwehr Brigade from March 27, 1843 to September 18, 1850. After he was promoted to major general in May 1848 , he then took over the 8th Infantry Brigade . On May 11, 1852, he was appointed commander of the 17th Infantry Brigade . After being given the character of Lieutenant General, Neander von Petersheyden was put up for disposition on July 7, 1853 with the statutory pension . After his farewell, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on the occasion of Wilhelm I's coronation on October 18, 1861 . Neander von Petersheyden died on August 18, 1863 in Görlitz.

On March 27, 1815, in Berlin, he married Johanna Friederike Auguste Morgenländer (1792–1872), the daughter of the secret finance councilor Morgenländer. The three children Maria, Therese and Hugo emerged from the marriage, but they died young.
