Les Jackson (born December 21, 1952 in Manning , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and currently co-general manager of the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League .

Career as a player

Les Jackson was selected in the fourth round of the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft as the 64th overall player by the Boston Bruins . Although Jackson played in numerous North American professional leagues, he never reached the NHL as a player. Jackson began his career as a hockey player in the Western Hockey League , in which he played for the Estevan Bruins and 1971/72 for the New Westminster Bruins in the 1970/71 season. In his first season in professional ice hockey, the Canadian was in the International Hockey League for the Dayton Gems in 64 games on the ice. He scored 27 points scorer, including nine goals. In the 1973/74 season Jackson was under contract with the Roanoke Valley Rebels from the Southern Hockey League . Other stations for Jackson were the Nelson Maple Leafs from the Western International Hockey League , the Cape Codders from the North American Hockey League , the Kalamazoo Wings from the International Hockey League and finally the Butte Copper Kings , Tucson Icemen and Billings Blazers from Southwest Hockey League .

Career as a trainer and manager

After the 1976/77 season Jackson ended his career as a player and was head coach of the Great Falls Americans from the Western Hockey League before the 1979/80 season until it was disbanded on December 26, 1979. The next two years he coached the Brandon Wheat Kings , who also played in the WHL. The Canadian was General Manager of the Kings for two more years. Before the 1985/86 season he was assistant coach with the Minnesota North Stars of the National Hockey League , where he worked in various positions until 1999, although the franchise had moved to Dallas , Texas in the summer of 1993 and was renamed Dallas Stars . On September 1, 1999, Jackson joined the Atlanta Thrashers as Assistant General Manager. Jackson returned to the Stars on July 6, 2000, and became Interim Co-General Manager with Brett Hull on November 13, 2007 . On May 22, 2008, the club's management decided to leave Hull and Jackson in their position as a permanent solution and both received a three-year contract as co-general manager.
