Leslie M. Scott

Leslie M. Scott (born February 18, 1878 in Portland , Oregon , † December 18, 1968 ibid) was an American historian, newspaper publisher and politician ( Republican Party ).

Career

Nothing is known about Leslie M. Scott's youth. His father was Harvey W. Scott , an editor at The Oregonian. Scott was the chairman of the Oregon Historical Quarterly and served on the board of the Oregon Historical Society for 40 years . Around 1910 he built a house in Portland, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1989 . Scott and his father published the six-volume series A History of the Oregon Country. In 1939 he was on the board of directors of The Oregonian. He was elected Treasurer of State of Oregon in the 1940 election and was reelected for another four-year term in 1944. He took up his post on January 6, 1941 and held it until January 3, 1949. His term of office was overshadowed by the Second World War . In 1948, he served as acting governor of Oregon for a while. He was also President of the Portland, Oregon Chamber of Commerce.
