Tobias Read (* 1975 in Missoula , Montana ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

Private life

Tobias Read grew up in Boise ( Idaho on). Nothing is known about his youth. Read moved to Oregon. There he attended Willamette University in Salem , where he received his bachelor's degree in politics and economics in 1997 . From 1999 to 2001, Read served as an advisor to the United States Treasury Department under Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence Summers . In 2003 he graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle with a Master of Business Administration . In the following years he returned to Oregon.

In February 2004 he started working as a footwear developer at the sporting goods manufacturer Nike . He worked there until May 25, 2012. His resignation came in order to devote himself more to his political career. Read, who was 36 at the time, said the following:

“I'm not able to give the full attention that I wish I could to the Legislature and my other responsibilities. It's hard to balance these things. "

“I am unable to give my full attention to the Oregon Legislative Assembly and my other duties as I wish. It's hard to balance these things. "

He has two children with his wife Heidi Eggert. His wife works for Nike.

Political career

Read decided to pursue a political career. In the 2006 election, he was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives for a two-year term . He was re-elected four times in a row. During his tenure, he sat on several committees. He chaired the Higher Education, Innovation and Workforce Development Committee and co-chaired the Capital Construction Subcommittee. He also sat in the General Government Subcommittee, the Tax Credits Committee, the Transportation and Economic Development Subcommittee and the Ways and Means Committee. Read held the post of Speaker Pro Tempore. He helped pass House Bill 4040 , the Oregon Investment Act that promotes business . On May 21, 2012, he was appointed to the Oregon Growth Board . The post was created under the Oregon Investment Act.

In the November 2016 election, he was elected as the new State Treasurer of Oregon . He took up his new post on January 3, 2017.
