description
The 42 meter high, red and white striped concrete tower with a white steel lantern house was built in 1984. It is located in the Elbe, around 1,340 meters from the upper fire, and can be reached via a 30-meter-long stack .
The concrete foundation was built using the caisson principle . It weighs a good 700 tons and extends ten meters below the surface of the water. The eleven-tonne lantern house was assembled using a floating crane.
The lighthouse is controlled remotely from the nautical center Seemannshöft .
New building (2019)
In the course of deepening the Elbe, the existing tower will be demolished and replaced by a 32 m high tower. This will also be provided with a viewing platform and made accessible to the public via a steel bridge.
