The beacon Bunthaus was a leading light on the colored house cusp , the waters separating the same in Norder- and Süderelbe in Hamburg district of Wilhelmsburg .

The tower was built in 1913 and started service in 1914. Its fire was extinguished in March 1977. On March 31, 1977 its function was taken over by two red, two green and one red-green bins . A water volume measuring point has been preserved to this day.

The green, hexagonal wooden tower with white edge protection strips is 6.95 meters high and tapers towards the top. It has a viewing platform with a white railing, which can be reached via an iron, nineteen-rung, white external staircase. The riveted steel lantern house is red and housed a belt lens with two incandescent lamps (60 watts , 220 volts each ) that emitted 360 ° visible light.

The tower was renovated for the 800th birthday of the Port of Hamburg in 1989 and in August 2007, this time by the Hamburg Port Authority's stacking department . Following an application from 2004, the tower was placed under monument protection on January 12, 2005 .

The small tower at Elbe kilometer 609 has become a landmark on the Elbe island of Wilhelmsburg. It can be reached via the Bunthäuser hiking trail.
