The construction of the 30 meter high steel lattice tower began in 1899, at the same time as the structurally identical Wittenbergen lighthouse , 730 meters away from the Tinsdal lighthouse above the old Tinsdal powder factory. When it went into operation, it replaced the Schulau lightship . The tower at position 53 ° 34 'N 9 ° 44' E had the German beacon number 1018 (international Lfv. 1929).
From 1900 to 1927 the tower was known to seafarers due to its color as a white tower through a notification from the Reichsmarinamt . Then it got its typical red stripes for lighthouses. Also in 1927 the exchange of the 30 m above sea level took place. NN located kerosene lamp with a belt optics IV. Order against a completely glazed liquid gas lantern with headlight lenses.
The Billerbek beacon ceased operations on January 1, 1960, and the tower was later demolished.
