history

Wilhelm Lexzau and Julius Scharbau founded the Lexzau, Scharbau company in Hamburg in 1879 . In 1898 an office in Bremen was opened under the direction of Friedrich August Meyer, who became a partner in the company in 1919 . In 1935, F. A. Meyer made his two sons Julius and Hans partners.

Right from the start, the company was active in all areas of freight forwarding , with the focus in Bremen on the bulk goods sector . Business relationships with the chemical industry were established in Hamburg as early as the turn of the 20th century .

After the Second World War , the first office was opened in Bremen at the Bremer Domshof in 1946 . After several moves within Bremen, in 1969 the company moved to a new administration building in Kap-Horn-Straße, on a headland between the Weser and Port Canal A of Bremen's industrial ports .

The office building, created according to the plans of the Bremen architect Gerhard Müller-Menckens , has special features: The entire building is reminiscent of a ship's bridge, as the office floors tower up like ship superstructures. The hull of the ship is formed by the roof of the submarine bunker Hornisse , which was built during the Nazi era and no longer completed . The L-shape of the company headquarters forms the basis of the Leschaco logo in a stylized form.

Lexzau, Scharbau acted in the field of transport with a great willingness to innovate . From the beginning of the 1960s, the company invested in the establishment and ongoing development of its own data processing system , which has now been further developed into a comprehensive data and information system and a cloud-based IT infrastructure. In addition, the company developed a dangerous goods database in which 20,000 dangerous goods are listed. Lexzau, Scharbau also took over the freight forwarding company Hagens, Anthony & Co. in 1971, with whom it was active in the air freight sector. This company has been operating under the name Leschaco Aircargo GmbH since the middle of 1994. From the late 1970s until today, the company grew internationally due to its international expansion .

The entrepreneur Herbert Conrad became a partner in Bremen in 1959 and sole owner in 1970. Since 1992 his son Jörg Conrad has been the sole shareholder of the Anker-Leschaco group of companies .
