Liane Balaban
Liane Balaban (born June 24, 1980 in North York , Ontario ) is a Canadian film and stage actress .
life and work
Balaban was born to a Catholic mother of Irish descent and a Jewish father from Uzbekistan . She grew up in the Willowdale neighborhood of the North York borough of Toronto. Balaban studied journalism at Ryerson University in Toronto, which she left to focus on acting. She completed a degree in political science at Concordia University in Montreal with a bachelor's degree.
Balaban's feature film debut was an accidental discovery in 1999 in Allan Moyle's low-budget drama New Waterford Girl in the role of 15-year-old Mooney Pottie. This was followed by roles in Canadian independent films, television films, and television series.
Her first role in a mainstream feature film was in the 2008 Hollywood comedy Maybe, Maybe Not .
For the role of Samantha Pierce in Michael McGowan's independent film One Week alongside Joshua Jackson was nominated in 2009 by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for the Genie Award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.
