Love, Sex and Twilight Zone is the second solo album by German rapper Kaas . It was released on May 6, 2011 by the Stuttgart label Chimperator Productions and is distributed by Rough Trade Distribution GmbH . Love, Sex and Twilight Zone is a double album that is stylistically divided into two parts. As the main producer, Dirty Dasmo worked on the musical design of the release. The album reached number 39 on the album charts.

After Kaas' debut album TAFKAAZ: D and in October of the same year Because yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, in eternity, Orsons of his group Die Orsons were released, Chimperator Productions announced the rapper's second solo album at the end of January 2011 for April 29, 2011. A few weeks after the announcement, the release date was postponed by one week to May 6, 2011 for reasons that were not communicated.
Love, Sex and Twilight Zone is a double album. The first half is a rap album, while the second part can be stylistically assigned to Eurodance . The idea for a Eurodance album is based on the fact that Kaas was a fan of the genre in his childhood. Through the style of electronic dance music , he also got to know rap . A few years later, Kaas stated that the Eurodance genre was pop music " constructed on the drawing board " by the record industry , using elements from different musical styles. However, since he liked the constellation of dance rhythm, a rapper responsible for the verses and a singer, he decided to record an album of this genre. In contrast to the previously successful Eurodance, Kaas' approach was to breathe “ soul ” into the music . He associates the expression "Twilight Zone" used for the second half of the album with the Eurodance duo 2 Unlimited , which released a song of the same name in the early 1990s, and with the single by German rapper Moses Pelham .

Versions
The album was released in different versions. In addition to the standard version, which comprises 21 pieces, three other versions appeared under the names Unicorn Edition , iTunes Edition and Mzee Edition . The Unicorn Edition can only be obtained from the branches of the Müller retail chain . It is packed in a cardboard slipcase and contains a code with which the buyer can order a free T-shirt via the Chimperator Productions website . It is limited to a number of 1000 copies. When you buy the album on iTunes , it contains an exclusive track, the Jopez remix for Geiles Leben . In addition, the cover was modified to cover the unicorn's breasts in order to sell the album on the international market. The album version on the Mzee.com website also contains a poster signed by Kaas.

As already on TAFKAAZ: D processed Kaas in the song Jesus Loves Me the Winnenden school shooting . With this, the rapper was associated with the real rampage in various media due to the coincidence of the publication of his song Amokzahltag . In Jesus Loves Me , Kaas describes his poor emotional state after the events in Winnenden and the associated fear of being complicit in the crime. During this time, he also met relatives of the victims with whom he had conversations. One person replied that when asked how it was possible to go on living after the events, that he “believed in the power of the Lord ” and trusted it. Kaas reports on the subsequent conversation he had with this person about Jesus Christ , God and the importance of love for self and neighbor. In the third stanza in English, Nana goes further into the life of Jesus.

The recordings for love, sex and the Twilight Zone took place in Stuttgart and Berlin. The pieces on the first CD were created in the Unicorn Studio in Stuttgart . For the second half of the album, the Beats and Sound Studio of the producer Dirty Dasmo was used. Dasmo, best known for the production of the album Base Ventura by the rapper Marteria , also appears on the album as the main producer. For the first CD, he produced the songs Von mir Loved , Woman in Tanzania , Forgiveness & Forgiveness and Rendezvous with an Angel . The background music to Horny Life , Love, Sex and Tenderness and Crips, Bloods & Hollywood was provided by 7inch. In addition, don't worry by Mikko Tamminen, Relax by Jopez and Love vs. Hate produced by Whiz Vienna. The second part of the album, entitled "Twilight Zone", was also largely produced by Dirty Dasmo. The only exception was the music for Master Of Seduction was contributed by Flash Gordon. Following the shooting which occurred mixing of the pieces. The first CD was mixed by Tobi Smith and Dirty Dasmo in the Beats and Sound Studio . An exception is the song Don't worry , which was edited by Mikko Tamminen in Finland. The second CD was mixed by Volker "IDR" Gebhardt for Hustle Heart in the Children of Soul Studio . After mixing, production was completed with mastering . The first part of the album was mastered by Jens “Jeanz” Baumgart in the Stutt i / O TonStudio . Volker "IDR" Gebhardt took over the mastering of the second CD.
Stylistically, the music on the second CD is based on Eurodance, which was popular in the 1990s. In order to create the greatest possible proximity to this genre, more modern production options such as the sidechain compressor were dispensed with. Some songs make direct reference to individual pieces of Eurodance. During the production of the track Sweet Mango Summer (SMS), the idea was implemented to create background music based on Mr. President's Coco Jamboo .

The cover of Love, Sex and The Twilight Zone is very similar to the illustration of the previous album TAFKAAZ: D ajar. Unlike the cover of Kaas' debut album, it is a photo of a woman with a bare chest. The cover photo was shot by Luca & Ve '. Binh was responsible for the back cover for the second half of the album "Twilight Zone". As in the case of TAFKAAZ: D , the design of the artwork was done by Daniel W.
In a negative ranking on the Laut.de website at the end of May 2011 over the "25 worst covers" from the editorial point of view, the illustration of the front cover on love, sex and the Twilight Zone was ranked 6th. Videos
The title Von mir Loved was implemented as a video as the first track on the album. This had its premiere on March 25, 2011 on the website 16bars.de. This was followed by the implementation of the song Kaas ist wie , which was previously made available exclusively for the hip-hop magazine . The first song on the second CD Twilight Zone was a video for Planet of Love . A video for Sweet Mango Summer was also released for the album . On May 6, Kaas began a concert tour with the rapper Favorite, who is under contract with Selfmade Records . The two musicians complete their tour under the title “ Favorite vs. KAAS Tour 2011 ". After nine appearances, the tour ended on May 15, 2011 in Trier.

Love, Sex and Twilight Zone entered the German album charts at number 39. It is therefore Kaas' most successful publication.
criticism
Dani Fromm wrote an article about love, sex and the Twilight Zone for the website Laut.de , in which she praised Kaas' approach to love and thus to counter the widespread negative content of rap music with a " colorful counterpoint ", but criticized it Implementation expressed. The album was awarded three out of a possible five rating points. Fromm praises the musician's " exuberant talent " at making up stories. In a review by Daniel Decker for the blog Vintage Sounds , Love, Sex and the Twilight Zone is described as a “ great hip-hop album with eleven trashy bonus tracks ”. Kaas can be compared with Eko Fresh with regard to the topic of love and the support provided by Berlin's Kool Savas . The difference, however, lies in the fact that Eko Fresh was characterized by overconfidence, while Kaas' music stands for " insanity and irony ".
