Lienhard Pflaum (born January 13, 1927 in Mannheim ; † March 4, 2018 in Unterhaugstett ) was a German theologian , pastor of the Evangelical Church in Baden , editor, author of many books and long-time director of the Liebenzeller Mission .

Live and act

From 1947 Pflaum studied Protestant theology in Tübingen and Heidelberg . In April 1953 he was ordained in Mannheim and then began the vicariate in Schwetzingen . From 1954 he was a religion teacher at the grammar school in Constance . From 1958 to 1963 he worked as a parish pastor, district youth pastor and district representative for people's mission and external mission in Riegel am Kaiserstuhl and Endingen am Kaiserstuhl . From 1963 he was on leave to serve in the Liebenzeller Mission as a theological teacher, then as a seminar leader . From 1966 he was chairman of the board and from 1968 until his retirement in 1992 its director. During this time, today's Christian guest houses in Monbachtal were added to the Missionswerk in 1975 , where he initiated the seminar for missionary training . Under his leadership, the plant, whose management personalities had changed frequently up to then, gained internal stability, it said at the end of the day. His clear view of the intellectual debates and currents of the present had a decisive influence on the Liebenzell mission.

Until November 1991 Pflaum was a board member of the Liebenzeller community association . He was a member of the ecclesiastical-theological working group for biblical Christianity , which from 1952 dealt critically with the teachings of Rudolf Bultmann . In 1963 he wrote a pamphlet against his “false doctrine”. Pflaum was a member of evangelical committees for many years: from 1969 to 1991 on the main board of the German Evangelical Alliance and the Working Group on Evangelical Missions , and from 1967 to 1973 at the Württemberg regional synod . From 1971 to 1990 he was Deputy President of the Gnadauer Verband and was one of the founders of the Evangelical news agency idea . From 1981 he was on the board of the Bibles Association , from 1964 a member of the “ church-theological working group ”, member of the board of trustees of the “ Institute for Protestant Missiology ”, co-editor of the magazine Hoffen und Demokratie , was part of the editorial team of the quarterly newspaper “Aufblick und Outlook”, the is published by the "Association for the Strengthening of Biblical Faith" and was chairman of the "Association for the Promotion of Biblical Instruction and Orientation", which distributes the newsletter "God's Word in Our Time" and missionary and pastoral booklets. In 1987 he was a co-signer of the Last Supper Convention between the Evangelical Church in Württemberg and its regional church communities .

In the headquarters of the love work for Israel "Zedakah" in Maisenbach (Bad Liebenzell) he held a service every month until old age.

Private

Lienhard Pflaum had been married to his wife Renate, who died in 2017, since 1956. The couple had four children and were retired from Unterhaugstett . One of the sons is the theologian Johannes Pflaum .

Honors

In 1988, Pflaum was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity ( DD ) degree by Biola University in California .
