Linea 77 is an Italian crossover band from Venaria Reale that has been active since 1993 . The texts are alternating between Italian and English .

The group is named after the bus route in Turin with which the band members came to their first rehearsal room.

Band history

Linea 77 was founded in 1993 as a cover band , with the band particularly focused on groups like Rage Against the Machine and CCCP .

After two demos, the first album Too Much Happiness… Makes Kids Paranoid was released in Italy in 1998 with their own songs. The band, initially only known in Italy, became aware of the British label Earache Records , which released the debut album across Europe in 2000 and gave Linea 77 the opportunity to tour with earthtone9 , Kill II This and Lostprophets . The first video clip in the band's history was shot for Meat and was shown on MTV , among others .

The second release Ket.ch.up Sui.ci.de , produced by Dave Chang , followed in 2001. With a cover version of the Bangles hit Walk like an Egyptian , the band had recorded another attention- grabbing song. Linea 77 became the first Italian band to play at the Reading Festival .

Subsonica and Roy Paci were the musical guests on Numb , which was released in 2003 . Linea 77 went on an extensive tour through Belgium , Germany , England , Holland and Hungary . The band received a nomination for "Best Italian Act" at the MTV Europe Music Awards .

This was followed in 2005 by Available for Propaganda, recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Dave Dominguez ( Papa Roach , Orgy , Adema ) . It went straight to the top 10 Italian sales charts. Another long concert tour followed, which led Linea 77 as the opening act for Soulfly to Bulgaria , Greece , Serbia , Slovenia , the Czech Republic and Turkey .

At the end of January 2007, Venareal 1995, an album with two new songs and the first demo by the band Ogni cosa al suo posto from 1995, was released.

On February 8, 2008, the band released their sixth album on the major label Universal Music with Horror Vacui . With Toby Wright , who was already active for bands like Alice in Chains , Korn and Slayer , a well-known producer was hired again. The album features a collaboration with longtime Linea 77 fan Tiziano Ferro , and the recordings for Horror Vacui took place again in Los Angeles. As the seventh album, the long player 10 followed again in 2010 via Universal Music .

In 2013 an EP was released with La speranza è una trappola (Part 1) , and in 2015 with Oh! another studio album by the band. These were published by the Italian independent label INRI.

style

Linea 77 have a crossover sound that has been largely viewed as "out of date" since the 1990s. There are comparisons with the early Deftones , Infectious Grooves , early Red Hot Chili Peppers or System of a Down .

Linea 77 are occasionally accused of “disorganized song structures”, which arise not least from the repeatedly interspersed breaks and the characteristic, fast changes in rhythm and style. Since the album Available for Propaganda (2005), the band has been pursuing a "comprehensible and thus also more commercial" path.
