Lino Vombommel

Lino Vombömmel OFM (born July 24, 1934 in Teresópolis , state of Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ; † August 6, 2007 in Santarém , state of Pará , Brazil) was a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Santarém .

Life

Lino Vombömmel joined the order of the Franciscans and studied theology and philosophy from 1950 to 1956 at the Colégio São Luiz e Tolosa em Rio Negro (PR) and the Seminário de Santo Antônio em Agudos (SP) . From 1958 to 1959 he studied theology at the Franciscan Seminary in Curitiba (PR). On December 15, 1962, he was ordained a priest and completed a postgraduate course at the Theological Institute of the Franciscans ("Instituto Teológico Franciscano de Petrópolis") in Petrópolis (RJ). From 1964 to 1966 he learned the Japanese language at the language school of the Franciscan Order in Tokyo, an offshoot of the Catholic University of America. From 1964 to 1967 he was also engaged for the order in Japan. After further studies at Universidade de Mogi das Cruzes in 1969/1970 he was pastor in São Paulo and took on leadership roles in the archdiocese and in the administration of the order. He was the National President of Japan-Brazil Pastoral Care and Apostolic Delegate of the Japanese Mission.

On May 25, 1981 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Santarém by Pope John Paul II and appointed titular bishop of Iunca in Byzacena . He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil, Archbishop Carmine Rocco , on August 15, 1981. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Santarém, James Michael Ryan , and the Archbishop of Belém do Pará , Alberto Gaudêncio Ramos .

On June 9, 1983, Pope John Paul II appointed him coadjutor bishop of Santarém. With the resignation of James Michael Ryan on November 27, 1985, he followed this as Bishop of Santarém.

On February 28, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. his early resignation.
