List of old synagogues in North Rhine-Westphalia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Of the 350 or so synagogues that were located in what is now the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the 1930s , only a few were able to escape destruction by the National Socialists during the November pogroms in 1938 . The preserved houses of worship are mostly buildings that had previously been abandoned by their communities or whose destruction was not or only incompletely carried out due to the proximity of the neighboring houses.

The following list shows the old synagogues in North Rhine-Westphalia that still exist today. Former places of worship that have been converted into residential or commercial buildings or warehouses in a way that makes the original function unrecognizable are not taken into account.
