Ensembles
Ensemble old town Bischofsheim in the Rhön with castle district
The former administrative seat of the Würzburg diocese was mentioned for the first time in 1270. The hochstiftische Castle District, together with the parish church incorporated into the body of the city to the north periphery. Due to the regularity of its floor plan, the city itself proves to be a 13th century complex. The main axis is drawn as an east-west diameter in a slightly broken course within an approximately circular outline. It expands in the middle to form a long, rectangular market square , on which the town hall originally stood free. The orientation of the market square is decisive for the side streets, which run parallel to it throughout. In the southern area, the course of the Stadtbach takes the place of a parallel street. He originally ran mills that served the cloth making trade. The city has the character of a farming community and craftsmen settlement . Three major fires in the middle of the 19th century decimated the old building fabric, so that the place is no longer medieval, but late Biedermeier. The development consists partly of a closed row of two-storey eaves side houses with narrow fronts and raised ground floors that can be reached via small open staircases, partly side by side with half-hipped roof buildings on the gable side with wide facades, which are often designed as semi-detached houses. In addition to the stone construction, clapboard half-timbering is often used. Boundary: city wall or its former course . File number: E-6-73-117-1.
City fortifications
The city wall was in the 13./14. It was built in the 19th century as a man-sized quarry stone wall and its course can still be clearly seen. It was largely inserted on the west and east sides. Otherwise, it has been preserved with interruptions on the following properties in different amounts: Am Mühlbach 5; Fastnachtsgasse 8, 10; Dye kennels 11, 13, 17; Gerber Zwinger 12 (with inscription plaque labeled 1607), 14, 24, 26, 28, 34, 36; Hofstrasse 20, 22, 24 (with inscription stone, marked 1773); Josefstrasse 9 (with inscription stone marked 1774); Church square 3; Löwenstrasse 17; Ludwigstrasse 27; Pfarrgasse 5, 7, 11 (with key notches, 2nd half of the 15th century), 13 (with heavily weathered inscription stone, inscribed 1759). File number: D-6-73-117-1. Are listed as belonging to individual monuments.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
