CON-SUM / world art room | Ronsdorfer Straße 77a map |
The architects Carl Moritz and Werner Stahl built the building complex for the Konsum cooperative (General Consum Association Free Rhineland), which had its headquarters there at the beginning of the 20th century, with a large bakery, colonial goods warehouse, administration and vehicle fleet. The consumer associations were a special form of cooperative in the retail trade, which primarily procured and sold food and luxury goods, but also other everyday goods at low prices. When the baking factory was to be shut down and demolished in the 1970s, Hans-Peter Zimmer bought the area and the building. At the end of the 1980s, the place now known as CON-SUM became an alternative quarter for the Düsseldorf art scene. The “Hans-Peter-Zimmer Foundation” (HPZ) established the “Weltkunstzimmer” art center on the industrial site in October 2012 to promote art and music. | from 1909 | 26 Sep 1997 |
