Model housing estate at the Nordfriedhof | Am Adershof 4, 6–11, Hugo-Viehoff-Straße 1–3, 7–17, Am Tannenwäldchen 1–16 map |
The settlement "Am Tannenwäldchen" (at the north cemetery) was built in 1919/20 in the north of Düsseldorf as a model settlement for residential buildings built quickly and in a cost-saving manner. Well-known architects such as Josef Kleesattel , Eduard Lyonel Wehner , Franzius and Carl Krieger (1867–1957), large construction companies such as Mayss & Freytag, Dyckerhoff & Widmann , Beton- und Monierbau and the Westdeutsche Siedlungsbau GmbH were involved in its creation . The economic and financial situation at the time after the First World War was decisive for the development of the “model housing estate at Nordfriedhof”. As a result of the great shortage of building materials, attempts were made to develop new building material technologies that were supposed to replace the old, conventional building materials and thereby had to meet certain requirements, such as thermal insulation. In order to gain experience in the field of economy and replacement construction, the city of Düsseldorf built a model housing estate in 1919/1920 to test the individual systems developed by important companies. In the boundaries of the area, the development at Johannstrasse 2–20 was classified as worthy of preservation and included because it was created at the same time and in obvious coordination with the construction of the model housing estate. | 1919-1920 | June 29, 1987 |

Old Jewish Cemetery | Ulmenstrasse 187 map |
The entrance gate to the old Jewish cemetery, the area of which extends all the way to Baumstrasse, is located on Ulmenstrasse. The cemetery area is overgrown, closed off, not easily visible, and as a cemetery is not recognizable from the outside. “In the entrance area was the prayer hall built in 1892 and the gardener's apartment, which were destroyed in the Second World War. To the right of the main path are the children's graves; on the left, a narrow path leads to the oldest graves in the cemetery and to the graves of the fallen soldiers of the First World War. The main path continues through the part of the cemetery that was occupied from 1877 to 1905. In the middle there are two rows of graves placed close together that have been reburied from other Düsseldorf cemeteries to form the cemetery on Ulmenstrasse. Behind it is the extension of the cemetery, the graves of which were laid from 1905 to 1922. " | 1844 | Jan. 30, 2004 |
