from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Bauer (born January 31, 1875 in Düsseldorf ; † January 12, 1935 there ) was a German architect and interior designer .

Life

Richard Erwin Bauer, son of the carpenter Peter Bauer (1832–1901) and Wilhelmine Bode (1833–1910), was born on Düsselthaler Strasse in Düsseldorf-Pempelfort . Like his older brother August , Richard Bauer went to the Düsseldorf School of Applied Arts from 1890 to 1894 after training in his father's company . In the school year 1892/1893 Richard Bauer, now a cabinet maker, received a one-year scholarship from the Aders-Tönnies Foundation .

In the competition for drawings for “Exemplary furniture for workers' apartments ”, advertised by the “Rheinischer Verein zur Förder des Arbeiterwohnungen zu Düsseldorf” together with the company Krupp from Essen , Richard and August Bauer received 2nd prize in 1902 and 3rd prize in 1907 , endowed with 500 marks each, for the war memorial in the Wiesbaden Nerotal facilities .

On the grounds of the 1902 industrial and trade exhibition , Richard Bauer and Hermann vom Endt built the Buderus 'iron works' pavilion and a tall, narrow house for the Fredenhagen company . At the International Art Exhibition and Great Horticultural Exhibition of 1904 , in the architecture department in the Düsseldorf Art Palace , Bauer exhibited watercolors and pen drawings of residential and commercial buildings, as well as the design of the exhibition building for the Chamber of Crafts from 1902 (the construction of the exhibition building for the Chamber of Crafts executed by the architect Rudolf Brüning ). In 1905 Bauer, together with government architect Kurt Gabriel (1873 – after 1929) and the decorative painter Ignaz Wagner (1854–1917), published studies on the then modern extensions of buildings and interiors at Friedrich Wolfrum's publishing house for architecture and applied arts. In 1909 and 1922 Bauer took part in the Great Art Exhibition in Düsseldorf organized by the Association for the Organization of Art Exhibitions.

At the beginning of 1900, still living in his parents' house, Bauer had completed his construction office at Kölner Straße 14 and his master craftsman's certificate in a carpenter's workshop in the furniture factory of the Bauer brothers on Kölner Straße 16 . As a freelance architect, Bauer lived at Sternstrasse 20 and moved into his new building at Am Wehrhahn 97 in 1906, where he lived to the end. In 1912 Bauer opened a studio for architecture and applied arts in the then new " Ludwig-Loewe-Haus " at Wilhelmplatz 3/8 (today Konrad-Adenauer-Platz).

Richard Bauer was a member of the German Free Architects' Association (DFA) , from which the Association of German Architects emerged , and of the Architects and Engineers Association in Düsseldorf .

Most of his buildings and interiors, initially in the Art Deco style , disappeared during and after the Second World War .
