Erected in the Bauhaus style in 1931 under the direction of the Essen architect Hermann Finger , the architects Ernst Knoblauch and Eberhard Haakshorst introduced changes after the Second World War . In the 1980s, the mourning hall fell into disrepair due to a leaky roof and groundwater damage in the basement. As a result, it was completely renovated within eight months in 2000. The 1.3 million euro renovation costs were borne by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation . 1931 0Jan. 9, 1986 102
