Ensembles
Ensemble Marktplatz Kößlarn
File number: E-2-75-131-1
The ensemble encompasses the wide, hook-shaped market street. It is the middle part of a street settlement that follows an old west-east road, winding several times. The settlement did not develop until the late Middle Ages due to a great pilgrimage that began with the miraculous image found in Kößlhof in 1364. In this former wasteland, which still exists as a courtyard on the southern edge of the market, the pilgrimage church with its oldest parts was built around 1400 and the craftsmen's settlement on both sides of the street since the 15th century. Already in 1488 Kößlarn was mentioned as a ducal market. At that time the pilgrimage was the largest Marian pilgrimage in Lower Bavaria, the flourishing traffic and handling of goods at the pilgrimage site attracted traders, craftsmen and innkeepers who settled down. The spiritual care of the pilgrimage lay with the Cistercian Abbey of Aldersbach . Until the middle of the 19th century, the almost closed development of the market square consisted mostly of block buildings with flat saddle roofs. Of this type of house with a wide roof projection, some, albeit plastered, representatives have survived in the district of the square; next to it, on the north side of this part, some eaves side houses remind of the reconstruction after the fire of 1868. The angled upper part of the market, rising to the northwest, is made up of the unique assembly of the former pilgrimage, now parish church, the churchyard fortifications and the associated parish, Mastered beneficiaries, sacristan and gatehouses. The church was further expanded in the 15th and early 16th centuries by the Aldersbach Abbey and was surrounded by a closed ring of fortifications with a wall, battlements, four gates, which was first mentioned in 1467 and featured the miraculous image and the church treasures as well as the residents of the otherwise unfortified market protection. In front of the church to the south are the rectory and stately gable and eaves side houses, including the town hall. Among the other houses - unless they have been heavily renovated - some characteristic half-hipped buildings should be mentioned.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
