Slim Bouaziz became the first African grandmaster in 1993 .

The list of International Masters of 1975 lists all chess players who received the title of International Masters in 1975 from the World Chess Federation FIDE .

In January 2019, 36 of the 53 players honored at the time are still alive. 17 of the 53 players later achieved the grandmaster title.

Legend

The table contains the following information:

  • Name : gives the name of the player.
  • Country : The country for which the player was eligible to play in 1975.
  • Life data : states the year of birth and, if applicable, the year of death of the player.
  • GM : Indicates the year of award for players who were later promoted to grandmasters.
  • Other associations : For players who were sooner or later eligible to play for at least one other association, this indicates these associations with the periods of eligibility to play (if known). Changes to a successor state are taken into account if the player was still active in chess at that time.
