1959–1960 (glider) Apart from a few changes owed to the continuous use and the manufacture of airworthiness according to the specifications of the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, very authentically preserved testimony to the history of sailplane construction in the GDR, of technical significance, also as one of the few ever preserved and the only airworthy sailplane this type of rarity and great visual and experience value.

To the construction:

- Self-supporting middle decker in wood construction, - suitable for winch and aircraft towing (keel or bow restraint), - hull in frame-stringer construction, plywood-clad, supporting structure and tail unit z. Partly also covered with fabric (e.g. rudder), - Plexiglas hood for opening, can be thrown off in an emergency by actuating the lever, - Nose cap with openings for pressure reduction and for aircraft towing, - Two-part structure, two wings with a total span of 16.5 m, can be dismantled for the purpose of transport, for wing assembly the wing spars are inserted into a continuous spar bridge on both sides of the fuselage and fixed by means of a central locking bolt (single-bolt quick coupling), the rudder and airbrake connections are connected automatically, - The 16.5- m support structure can be exchanged for a 15 m support structure to enable use in the standard class. - Tail unit at the rear, horizontal stabilizer surfaces can be folded up for the transport of the aircraft, including the tail skid, - Control by means of joysticks and pedals, transmission of the aileron and airbrake control in the fuselage via steel cables, in the structure via bumpers, - Instrumentation originally from the speedometer and altimeter, precision and coarse variometer, compass and electric turn indicator, currently expanded - Improvement of the flight characteristics by a 19 cm shorter (other source says 20 cm), low-friction fuselage in contrast to the previous model Lom-57 - When the fuselage advantage for the Lom-57 / I is shortened (DM-2573) the cover attached to the top was extended to the front and made of fiberglass laminate, so the nose cap with its imperfections was omitted and a coupling was now used for aircraft towing as on the keel restraint, but without self-release. This coupling was arranged above the nose runner, making the front opening in the nose cap superfluous. In the interest of better clarity, the instrument panel has been made smaller, more elegant and without metal parts. - In addition, a partial wheel cover made of glass fiber laminate could now be attached. - Airplane is suitable for tight and slow turns in weak thermals, but weak brakes - Spacious driver's seat - Thickened wing profile Gö 549

On the production and object history:

1954 Start of glider construction in Lommatzsch in the former Glashütte, initially manufactured according to designs by VEB Waggonbau Gotha, with the "Libelle" from 1955 development of the first own glider, the present "Libelle" belonging to the Lom-57 / I (DM -2573), - initially production of three prototypes between 1956 and 1958 (designations Lom 55 V-1 / V-2 / V-3 Libelle) under the direction of Heinz Rossig, - due to poor results, the development was taken over by the "developer collective" Hans Hartung, Hans Wegerich and Wilhelm Zimmermann of the VEB Flugzeugwerft Dresden, Apparatebau Lommatzsch, due to the successful construction of the new Libelle series, these received an award as "activists of socialist work", - series production Lom-57 / I Libelle from June 1959–1960 ( End of production), eleven pieces produced, export of three dragonflies to Denmark, Poland and Austria - there are only four of this type left and this should be the e only be airworthy.

Regarding authenticity:

The present dragonfly Lom-57I is authentically preserved in its construction, but shows changes that are based on the guidelines / specifications of the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, which serve to establish airworthiness. These concern the control (renewal of the control cables), the renewal of the paintwork and the replacement of the glue. The instrument panel is to be provided with modern measuring instruments.

The purchase contract was concluded with Friedrich Wilhelm Pilz on April 29, 1881 for the sum mentioned. It was about the parcels 1560 and 1560c, fire register dept. C - 41R u. C. and Section VII, numbers 129 and 128. On September 16, 1880, Pilz had already sold the parcel 1560b to the municipality. The military hospital (later the Mining Policlinic, today the main building of the Paracelsus Clinic) was planned in 1884. It was to be built on parcel 1555b. Presumably the hospital was completed in the same year. The construction drawings for the hospital were submitted for approval in 1884. The barracks had apparently been in operation since 1884. According to a building report from February 1885, work on the barracks was completed. The outdoor facilities - courtyard and the design of the staircase - were still under construction.

Officer's casino gardens: estimate 1885, 160 pieces of linden, oak, chestnut and acacia (?), 400 pieces of shrubs, 40 conifers.

1st July 1885 ceremonial handover of the barracks to the Royal Saxon 9th Regiment number 133.

On the night of April 29th to 30th, 1897, a major fire destroyed all roofs, roof structures and wooden beam ceilings of the barracks. The outer walls, however, remained almost intact. Reconstruction began in November 1898. Two parts of the building between today's houses 1, 2 and 3 were removed from the originally existing closed three-wing complex, so that three individual buildings with a connection on the ground floor were created. Houses 1 and 7 were even completely separated from each other. These measures served to create fire compartments and thus to reduce a future fire flashover between the individual buildings.

2nd construction phase: As the Zwickau garrison location was constantly being expanded, it soon became apparent that the capacity of the existing barracks was no longer sufficient. So it was decided in 1899 to expand the existing facility as part of the reconstruction. The extension includes houses 4, 5 and 8, which clearly stand out from the older plastered buildings with their clinker cladding. All buildings were arranged around a large rectangular inner courtyard. Partly around free-standing buildings or buildings connected to one another by means of intermediate structures, in the middle of the complex were the parade hall and the field vehicle shed. A green area with a driveway and viewing platform was placed in front of the main building, which supports the prestige of the complex.

In 1919 the Zwickau garrison was disbanded as part of demilitarization after the First World War. The offices of the State Police of Saxony and the Zwickau Police Department move in. It is also used by companies or for residential purposes.

From 1936 it was used again for military purposes. The army base administration of the Wehrmacht and the 2nd battalion of infantry regiment number 31 are established.

In 1945 the barracks were released for dismantling as a former armed forces facility by order of the Soviet occupying forces. The building material obtained is to be used to build new farms. The demolition work began with the parade hall and the stables. In the summer of 1948 the city of Zwickau was able to stop the demolition and obtain the approval of the barracks for residential use. Accommodation for Bismuth workers was created. The Mining Policlinic of SVK Wismut was built with the inclusion of the former officers' mess and the military hospital.

From 1954 accommodation of units of the riot police.

Military use again from 1963. Reserve training regiment 5 of the NVA, non-commissioned officers 'school "Paul Fröhlich", college entrance qualification for the officers' college "Ernst Thälmann" Löbau and tank destroyer department "Georg Schwarz".
