Water tower with elevated tank August-Schlosser-Strasse
(map)
1924-25 Typical water tower of the time in a simple design of importance in terms of supply history.

The waterworks was built in 1924/25 on behalf of the then still independent municipality of Oberhohndorf. The Chemnitz concrete construction company Paul Gotthardt was entrusted with the construction. The 20 meter high, plastered concrete tower is kept functionally simple, which is expressed in the cubistically added shapes of the individual tower components - the square tower shaft with the polygonal container storey attached to it, approximating to a cylinder, and a conical roof. Two semicircular windows on each side of the tower and four slotted windows in the area of the container complete the basic repertoire of shapes anchored in the design and provide light for the interior. The waterworks with an elevated tank in the tower (capacity 50 m³) and two underground tanks with a capacity of 125 m³ each is integrated into the community's water supply to this day. As a testimony to the municipal water supply at the beginning of the 20th century, it is of importance in the history of supply. (LfD / 2017)
