Railway bridge over the Zwickauer Mulde (Map) 1925 Originally part of the siding of the Crossen pulp mill, a remarkable and rare combination of a steel truss and concrete girder bridge of architectural, transport and urban history importance.

The first major industrial site in the north of the city of Zwickau developed from several wood, pulp and paper mills on the Zwickauer Mulde near Crossen, which emerged from the milling operation of Carl Friedrich Leonhardt and his son-in-law Christian Gottlieb Leonhardt. The latter not only financed a narrow-gauge siding to the narrow-gauge railway Mosel – Ortmannsdorf (Mülsengrundbahn) built in 1887 with a junction at the Mosel station, but from 1889 also played a key role in the planning of a standard-gauge industrial railway from Zwickau via Crossen to Mosel. For the construction of this standard-gauge line from 1892–1893, the route of the already existing narrow-gauge railway, which runs parallel to the main Dresden – Werdau line, was largely included. The new Zwickau – Crossen – Mosel railway line became an important engine of industrialization in the north of the city of Zwickau and quickly received several sidings to companies close to the line, including the Horch and Audi factories. The paper and cellulose factory (from 1895 consisting of the two companies CF Leonhardt and CF Leonhardt Söhne) remained the main user of the railway line until 1945. After the northern factory premises had already been connected to the industrial railway, a separate siding to the transfer station in Crossen was created around 1925 from the southern factory premises, the pulp factory. For this it was necessary to build a bridge structure over 100 m long over the Zwickauer Mulde from a multi-span concrete girder over the flood channel and a 40 m long iron truss over the river opening. With the takeover of the northern factory premises (the paper mill dismantled after the Second World War) by SAG Wismut in 1950 and the construction of a uranium ore washing plant by 1952 (referred to as “Factory 38”, from 1968 as “Object 101”), freight traffic increased due to the rain Transport of uranium ore along the route is essential. After 1989, however, the line utilization decreased again as a result of the discontinuation of most of the operations along the line, so that in 1999 a section was shut down (the remaining and meanwhile rehabilitated part of the railway line is still served as a siding from the Mosel station) and various dismantling Structural and engineering structures took place. The pulp bridge, which led to the southern factory site, which is now part of the VEB Zellstoff- und Papierfabrik Crossen, remained in place and is now used as a pedestrian bridge after a partial renovation in 2010. It is not only a final testimony to the production site of the once world-leading paper and cellulose factory Christian Gottlieb Leonhardts and his sons, but also as part of the Zwickau – Crossen – Mosel railway line, which was a major factor in the industrialization of the north of Zwickau, and of economic and urban historical importance. Due to its construction as a combined bridge of concrete girders and lattice girders, the pulp bridge is also of great importance and rarity in terms of building construction history. (LfD / 2014)

Railway bridge: built in 1925, consisting of multi-span concrete girders on five concrete pillars over the trough as well as steel lattice girders over the opening of the Zwickauer Mulde, length 110 m, lower lane with two standard gauge tracks and one narrow gauge track (field railway with gauge of 6000 m on the factory premises to the wood and Limestone transport - the limestone was sprinkled with water in the acid tower that was broken off in 2008 and surrounded by sulfur dioxide, the resulting calcium bisulfite acid was used for the chemical breakdown of wood for the purpose of dissolving the (sulfite) pulp required for paper production (sulfite process), partial renovation around 2010, reused as a pedestrian bridge.

Concrete girders over the trough: presumably made of reinforced concrete, girders with variable beam height and straight haunches as well as strong concrete parapets, supported on five concrete pillars, one of which is separating pillar to the adjoining steel truss.

Steel lattice girders over river opening: riveted, trapezoidal girders (strong strut lattice with posts, due to the construction as an inclined bridge, the girders are positioned offset in the longitudinal direction) with predominantly lattice-like cross girders as well as a light wind bond between the upper chords, due to the width of the construction additional longitudinal girders in the middle between the upper chords , strong cross members and wind bracing under the roadway between the lower chords, possibly. several longitudinal girders to accommodate the tracks, further stiffening by means of triangular sheets between posts and cross girders.

The dividing pillars between the concrete girder and the steel truss girders are stronger and integrated into the parapet.

Railway line Zwickau – Crossen – Mosel (line abbreviation ZCM), Saxon branch line / industrial line: originated from a narrow-gauge siding to the narrow-gauge railway Mosel – Ortmannsdorf (Mülsengrundbahn), junction at Mosel station, built in 1887, used. The railway was financed by the CF Leonhardt paper and pulp mill the route during the construction of a regular-gauge railway line from Zwickau via Crossen to Mosel 1892–1893, project planning driven by paper and pulp manufacturer Christian Gottlieb Leonhardt, Zwickau – Crossen – Mosel railway line important impetus for the further industrialization of the region north of Zwickau, paper and cellulose factory Until 1945 main users with two own connection points, 1950 SAG Wismut settled on the route (uranium ore processing plant Crossen), as a result high freight traffic due to uranium ore transports, 1989/1990 cessation of uranium ore processing, also closure of most of the operations along the route, 1999 St. Laying of a section between Zwickau and Crossen, renovation of the remaining section around 2000, continued service from Mosel station as a siding.

Former bobbinet weaving mill (red clinker building) with functional machine equipment: seven bobbinet looms (W. Hooton-Maker, Nottingham), three bobbinet looms (Jardine type), ten jacquard attachments, three winding machines, three winding machines and two drying ovens as well as the production building of the former lace weaving mill » R. Kant KG "and chimney (35 m high) Audistraße 8
(map)
1909 Plant of technical historical importance.

The bobbinet looms, including the jacquard machines, are still functioning English-style looms from the years 1886 and the following for the production of lace. After the industrial revolution in England and the associated mechanization of the textile industry, mechanical lace manufacture, in addition to curtain weaving increasingly also in Saxony, became another main branch of the Saxon, but above all the Vogtland clothing industry. After the heyday of the embroidery lace in the Plauen district, the demand for high-quality clothing and linen lace that was necessary at the time could increasingly be achieved mechanically. The impressive weaving width of over 7 meters and approx. 3200 working individual bobbins brought immense daily outputs that were not comparable with the previous form of lace manufacture. A few locations outside of the Vogtland testify to the growing demand. Zwickau and Dresden produced this type of lace with the looms that still existed here until the 1980s. This not only speaks for the popularity of the products in Germany and abroad, but also documents the quality work of English mechanical engineers from the end of the last century. After the collapse of the textile industry and the closure of most of these factories after 1990, the facility in Zwickau is the last complex preserved lace weaving mill with the necessary ancillary machines - such as winding machines, presses and steaming systems for the bobbins as well as an existing jacquard card production facility - in the Saxon region and probably all over Germany. What is significant is that the facility has existed unchanged in its form since 1909 and should still be fully operational with appropriate restoration. This machine system is a testimony to the production history of the Saxon and German textile industry from the beginnings of mechanized textile production. At the same time, it is a testimony to the English mechanical engineering history of the 19th century. This gives the machine system a high historical and technical-scientific value. The special historical and scientific value of this machine system, which in its entirety is probably the last evidence of mechanical lace manufacture for clothing and decoration purposes in Germany, follows from the monument property described above. This plant is also very memorable for the regional textile industry. There is a particular public interest in their preservation, especially in the state of Saxony.

Building: two-storey, red clinker brick facades, flat roof trusses, originally with skylight windows, unfortunately no longer available today, large rectangular windows with fine sprues, typical of industrial construction, e.g. T. worked up, z. Partly renewed prototypically, steel girder window lintels, window areas are subdivided into rectangular fields by pilaster strips, historical room structures almost completely preserved, wooden beam ceiling on steel supports and steel girders, in the ceiling between the ground floor and upper floor there are built-in skylights that can be walked on and driven over, stairwell with wrought iron railing, traffic areas in part Covered with Fikentscher stones, on the western gable side a former machine and boiler house with an internal, 35 m high chimney, equipment in both rooms unfortunately no longer available, renovation 2005, factory built by the company Zwickauer Spitzenweberei GmbH Artzt & Hempel managing directors Kurt Hempel and Rudolf Göldner , from 1928 Hartenstein weaving lace works, Richard Kant GmbH Zwickau plant

Substation Franz-Mehring-Strasse
(map)
around 1930 Industrial building with striking clinker brick decorations of architectural, urban and industrial historical value.

The former North substation was built towards the end of the 1920s as a functional building for the municipal power supply, which was taken off the grid in the early 1990s and its technical equipment was subsequently removed.

As is typical of the time, the functional building was erected in the functional basic forms of New Building with style echoes of Expressionism and Art Deco in architectural decoration. The facades are characterized by the formation of strong pilaster strips with clinker-clad backing, in whose decorative fields the windows are embedded. The rows of pilasters are stretched between poorly structured head sections with windows only on the front sides, which give the building a strong, almost defiant appearance. The two roof extensions, only one of which fulfills an actual ventilation function, while the other has been added for reasons of symmetry, reinforce this impression of solid power, which goes well with the technical function.

The quality of the design corresponds to the representative value that was confidently assigned to the urban infrastructure at the time of construction. At the same time, the building refers to the expansion of the power grid, brought about by the increasing energy demand of the important industrial city. Despite the removal of the mechanical and technical equipment, the floor plan shows the original function as a substation.

As a testimony to urban supply that is relevant in terms of technology and the history of the city, and due to the artistic significance of the industrial building at the time it was built, there is public interest in its preservation. The extensive authenticity of the appearance and the internal disposition, which can also be retained in the event of a change of use, contribute to this public interest. (LfD / 2012)

Broad, two-storey plastered building with pilaster strips, a plastered pilaster strip between each window axis, the window parapets and the window surrounds were clinkered, the window parapets between the ground floor and the upper floor received decorative clinker brickwork (cross, St. Andrew's cross, wickerwork and rhombuses), Window openings on the 1st floor probably originally higher, windows and doors renewed, technical equipment no longer available.

“The beautiful park is located in the north of Zwickau between the NEUE WELT concert and ballroom and the national long-distance cycle path 'Zwickauer Mulde'. From the beginning, biodiversity gave it a special character. Above all exotic trees, colored leaf plantings and roses, but also fountains and figures are inseparable from the park. In the course of its 100-year existence, the park has been expanded and changed several times. Today it represents a successful symbiosis between the strictly geometric center of the park and two thematic garden parts (rose / heather garden) with a frame in the style of a landscape park. "
