The cultural monument is a three-storey residential and commercial building in open development, with a loft and guest rooms on the ground floor. It was designed in 1870 by the important Zwickau master builder Franz Wolf and subsequently built under his direction. The client was Carl Goldammer, a citizen of Zwickau. In 1875 the Weiser confectionery with a cafe and billiards room was set up on the ground floor. From 1885 the restaurant was called Conditorei und Cafe Bruno Hentsch . To this day the building is known under the later name "Parkcafe". This eventful history is connected with countless renovations. The most extensive renovation took place in 1977 under the management of the HO restaurants. Unfortunately, a large part of the original substance was lost. Nevertheless, in terms of its cubature and its location, the building is of great urban significance for the city of Zwickau. Located directly at the fork in Alte Reichenbacher Strasse / Bahnhofstrasse, the building is a striking start when coming from the city center towards the main station. Refurbishment 1999/2000.

The richly structured plastered facades are characterized by elements of the neo-Renaissance style. Former post office building, with fence, outbuilding and green area Humboldtstrasse 1
(map)
re. 1882 Former post and telegraph office; representative, architecturally remarkable clinker brick building of architectural, historical and urban significance.

The cultural monument is the former Imperial Post and Telegraph Office , originally a two-storey building built in the neo-renaissance style in 1883/1884 according to plans by Imperial Post Building Councilor Gorth from Dresden. In 1905/1907 a second floor was added to align with the existing building. It is a yellow brick shell with numerous three-dimensional decorative elements and structure in sandstone. The center and corner projections of the facade are emphasized by the neo-renaissance gables and are richly decorated with obelisks, volutes, garlands and shells. The representative main entrance with a curved flight of steps is located in the central projection. The arched portal is arranged in a strict, antique-like frame. The two richly decorated door leaves with the wrought iron ornamental grilles have been preserved, as well as the decorated warrior, but the former skylight glazing with ornamental grilles and clock are missing, as is the glazing of the upper door leaves and the candelabra on the pedestals by the staircase. The original, approximately 40 cm high, art-forged decorative fence along the building on Humboldtstrasse is also no longer there. (All of this was uncovered or restored as part of the renovation measures carried out.) The courtyard side of the building is structured in the same way, but here the decorative shapes are used much more sparingly than on the street front in order to be able to use the top floor for office and work rooms it was expanded in the 1970s, giving it a different look than the top floor of the street front. The actually representative areas inside the building form the foyer from the period of construction with the adjoining hallways and stairwells, the appearance of which, however, was changed very disadvantageously due to changed usage requirements in the 1950s. Color versions from the construction period could still be verified in the course of diagnostic investigations. (With the exception of the two cast-iron columns, the color version from the time of construction could unfortunately not be exposed or reconstructed. It was preserved for later exposure.). The stairwells with the iron outside stairs, the cast columns and the elaborately designed banisters remained almost unchanged and, due to their size and design, convey an impressive sense of space. With the expansion of the post office in 1906/1907, the rear buildings should have been completely built. In their mass structure, they are oriented towards the adjoining Schwanenteichpark and give the impression of a castle-like complex. They form an ensemble with the main building and include a farm yard. The entrances to the complex are to the left and right of the main building and are closed off by gates made of sandstone elements. In terms of urban planning, it is remarkable that the building belongs to the ensemble of the former Albertplatz (today the Platz der Deutschen Einheit) with the district and regional court and the former Gerhart-Hauptmann-Gymnasium.

Former bank building with a fence on the park side, later a post office Humboldtstrasse 3
(map)
1902-1903 Architecturally remarkable building with sandstone cladding, of urban, local history and architectural value.

The cultural monument is a three-story former bank and residential building. It was designed in 1901 by the master builder Curt Zaeuner from Zwickau, built under his direction the following year and handed over to its intended use on March 28, 1903. The Reichsbank branch in Zwickau was on the ground floor as a branch of the Reichsbank Chemnitz with its business premises. On the 1st and 2nd floor there was a noble apartment. In 1924 the building office of the Reichsbank Zwickau built a single-storey, two-axis extension with a roof terrace on the south side of the building. After the Second World War until 2000, the building was used by the Deutsche Post. The facades have a high-quality sandstone cladding in a design typical of the period. The extension blends in harmoniously with the basic body so that it does not appear as a later ingredient. The windows and doors are almost completely preserved in the original, only the main entrance and side entrance door have been renewed. Inside, the architecture and furnishings from the construction period, in particular the floor plans, stairwell, apartment entrance and room doors, including the original fittings, stucco ceilings and parquet floors, have been preserved almost completely. The original lead glass windows in the stairwell are particularly noteworthy. The remains of the wrought iron enclosure in typical Art Nouveau forms, the lantern above the entrance and the cellar window grilles are also of high monument value. Overall, the careful craftsmanship of the materials used testifies to the high quality standards of the client at the time. The building with its associated open spaces and the historic property enclosure is also located within the extensive cultural monument Schwanenteichpark .

Individual monument of the whole Schwanenteichpark: open-air stage, consisting of two entrance buildings, auditoriums and a stage Parkstrasse
(map)
1957 A complex of cultural and historical importance built by the citizens of Zwickau as part of the national reconstruction work (see subject group 09301889, same address).

The open-air theater in the Schwanenteichpark was built by citizens of Zwickau as part of the national construction work (NAW) in 23,000 voluntary and unpaid hours of work and was inaugurated on August 23, 1957. Both in the park and opposite on Parkstrasse there is a representative entrance structure, both plastered buildings over curved surfaces. These are rounded off by low hip roofs covered with slate. The entrance building on Parkstrasse has two floors. Its ground floor is characterized by a central columned hall with five arcades. On the upper floor, a rectangular window was arranged above the apex of the arcades. The side wall surfaces, on the other hand, are not windowed through and have no other dividing elements. The facade is determined by the exciting alternation of undivided wall surfaces and the central part, which is highlighted by arcades and rectangular windows. The spectator tiers adjoin the northeast side of the building. The audience can get to the rows of seats through the high columned hall, which is also in the middle. Opposite, opening to the park through a columned hall, also in the middle, is the second entrance building of the open-air theater. The park facade is structured regularly. High rectangular windows were arranged on both sides of the three-aisled portico. This facade is also determined by an exciting wall-opening ratio. The south facade of this building also forms the backdrop for the semicircular stage surrounded by low walls. Here, too, the previously described design principle of the facade opened in the middle by arcades, which is framed by undivided wall surfaces, was used. Seven wall-high arcades characterize the south side of the building.

The open-air theater is an outstanding example of post-war architecture in the GDR, from which its supra-regional significance in terms of building history is derived. Due to the architecturally sophisticated design, this facility also has great architectural significance. The open-air theater is also worth a monument because it is a singular system (individual design) in very good original condition.

1901 (monument to Lothar Streit) significant parts of the landscape park of urban historical importance.

Lothar-Streit memorial stone: square cut granite block on a two-tiered base with a true-to-portrait relief on a bronze medallion and inscription: “LOTHAR STREIT / EHRENBUERGER / OBERBUERGERMEISTER / 1860–1898”, originally framed with sandstone pillars and wrought-iron fence1 on 25th 1908 . Lothar Streit inaugurated the first electric tram in Saxony in Zwickau in his capacity as mayor of the city of Zwickau in 1894.

War memorial for soldiers and officers of the 133rd regiment who fell in World War I: Monument made of Rochlitz porphyry over a triangular floor plan with three larger-than-life soldiers at the corners and an iron cross at the top, which is bordered by pyramid oaks. It stands on a square base made of reddish Erzgebirge granite with two encircling steps. The monument was consecrated on April 2, 1922. On the side facing the tech inscription: “THE IN / WORLD WAR FOR / FATHERLAND / COMRADES / DES / KGL. SAX. 9. INF.-REGTS. NO. 133 / KGL. SAX. RES.-INF.-REGTS. NO. 133 / KGL. SAX. AGRICULTURAL INF.-REGTS. NO. 133 / TO THE HONOR / MEMORY ”. Two benches made of Rochlitz porphyry are arranged to the side.

VDN memorial: Since September 11, 1948, there has been a “memorial for the victims of fascism” at the Schwanenteich in the city park near the center of Zwickau. The urns of 320 perished and murdered prisoners from the subcamp in the Horch and Mülsen St. Micheln plant were solemnly buried at this point on August 12, 1945. The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the memorial took place on May 30, 1948 on the occasion of a mass rally with 5000 participants. The urns of five Zwickau victims of the Nazi regime were also buried here. In the 1960s, a newly designed complex was built on the site of the old memorial that was demolished. Monument consecration on September 12, 1965, inscription: "THE DEAD / TO HONOR / THE LIVING / TO THE ADMINISTRATION"

Former music pavilion: round pavilion on eight slender steel pillars, flat roof, originally sliding glass walls, allegedly a plagiarism of the pavilion on the grounds of the Berlin Exhibition Office, which was designed by Prof. Dr. Poelzig was built, demolished in 1994.

Boat rental station: probably built around 1925/30. Timber frame construction with inner brick infill, outer shell with rounded planks. Rectangular floor plan, single-storey with a low hipped roof with slips. Quality double doors and original wooden shutters with ventilation slots. Due to a lack of construction files, the original use, producer and construction time of the wooden house cannot be determined. Presumably it served as a boat rental desk, possibly also as a snack bar and lounge. It is very likely that public toilets were originally located in the building.

The transformer / converter station from 1927, which has since been subsequently recorded (2015) and built by the municipal electricity company, on the corner of Humboldtstrasse and Reichenbacher Strasse, was demolished in 2016.

1850 Including medieval fish ponds from the middle of the 15th century, the court gardener Eduard Petzold laid out a landscape park from 1850 of importance in terms of garden art, social history and landscape.

The oldest and largest designed park in Zwickau, directly in contact with the city center, encompasses 41.5 hectares of green and water. Originally there were five medieval ponds in the same place, which were created from 1473 at the suggestion of councilors Martin Römer and Hans Federangel (the large pond and the long pond were preserved). The landscape park laid out by court gardener Eduard Petzold in the mid-19th century is one of the earliest public parks in Petzold's oeuvre, for which he supplied two designs (1850 and 1866) and instructed the execution of these, beginning before the designs were handed over.

Individual features:

Lothar-Streit memorial stone (see object 09231201): square cut granite block on a two-tiered base with a true-to-portrait relief on a bronze medallion and inscription: "LOTHAR STREIT / EHRENBUERGER / OBERBUERGERMEISTER / 1860–1898", originally bordered with sandstone pillars and iron pillars Unveiled May 25, 1901. Streit inaugurated the first electric tram in Saxony in Zwickau in 1894.

War memorial for the soldiers and officers of the 133rd regiment who fell in World War I (see object 09231201): Monument made of Rochlitz porphyry over a triangular floor plan with three larger-than-life soldiers at the corners and an iron cross at the top, which is framed by pyramid oaks. It stands on a square base made of reddish Erzgebirge granite with two encircling steps. The monument was consecrated on April 2, 1922. On the side facing the pond there is an inscription: “THE IN / WORLD WAR FOR / FATHERLAND / KAMERADEN / DES / KGL. SAX. 9. INF.-REGTS. NO. 133 / KGL. SAX. RES.-INF.-REGTS. NO. 133 / KGL. SAX. AGRICULTURAL INF.-REGTS. NO. 133 / TO THE HONOR / MEMORY ”. Two benches made of Rochlitz porphyry are arranged to the side.

VDN memorial (see object 09231201): Since September 11, 1948, there has been a “memorial for the victims of fascism” at the Schwanenteich in the city park near the center of Zwickau. The urns of 320 perished and murdered prisoners from the concentration camp satellite camp at the Horch and Mülsen St. Micheln plant were solemnly buried here on August 12, 1945.

Music pavilion (demolished in 1994): round pavilion on eight slender, round steel supports, flat roof, originally sliding glass walls, allegedly a plagiarism of the pavilion on the grounds of the Berlin Exhibition Office, which was designed by Prof. Dr. Poelzig was built, demolished in 1994.

Boat rental station, Parkstrasse 5a (see object 09231201): Rectangular timber frame construction, probably built around 1925/30 with inner brick infill and inverted formwork with rounded planks on the outside, one-storey with a low hipped roof with slips.

Open-air stage, Parkstrasse (see object 09230774): The open-air theater in Schwanenteichpark was built by citizens of Zwickau as part of the national construction work (NAW) from October 1955 in 23,000 voluntary and unpaid hours of work and inaugurated on August 23, 1957. The open-air stage built in the south-western corner of the Schwanenteichpark is considered the most beautiful facility of the national structure in Zwickau. Both in the park and on the opposite side on Parkstrasse, a striking building over a curved floor plan points towards the entrance area. These are plastered buildings, the façades of which are characterized by open arcades, rectangular or square window openings, porphyry walls and granite columns. The simple hipped roofs without any roof structure are covered with slate. The entrance / cash desk / technology building on Parkstraße has two floors facing the street. The ground floor is defined by a central portico with five arcades on the street and four on the inside. There is an almost square window on the upper floor above the apex of the street-side arcades. The side wall surfaces are closed and have no dividing elements. The exciting alternation of undivided wall surfaces and the central section, which is emphasized by arcades and windows - inward only by arcades - has a decisive influence on the façades. On the northeast side of the building is the oval of the spectator tiers / rows of seats, which can be reached through the tall columned hall in the middle and is surrounded by large greenery. It is a tiered system with simple bench constructions. Opposite, opening to the park through a columned hall, which is also in the middle, is the striking entrance / stage structure of the open-air theater. The park facade is regularly structured and determined by an exciting wall-opening ratio. The central part is shaped by the three-aisled columned hall, with high rectangular windows to the side defining the picture. The south facade of the building, characterized by seven wall-high arcades, also forms the backdrop for the semicircular stage surrounded by low stone walls. The already described design principle of the facade opened in the middle by arcades, which is framed by undivided wall surfaces, was also used for this facade. The open-air theater is an outstanding example of GDR architecture from the 1950s, from which its supraregional significance in terms of building history is derived. Due to the architecturally sophisticated design, this facility also has great architectural significance. The open-air theater is also worth a monument because it is a singular system (individual design) in very good original condition.

Schwanenbrunnen Parkteil Alte Reichenbacher Straße (see object 09231387): The part of the park was separated from the original Schwanenteichpark by the creation of a new section of the Reichenbacher Straße, but is in its system with the old trees, the fountain, the pergola, the stairs and the The original vase has been preserved and still belongs to the swan ponds, the plastic base, the fountain basin and the pillars of the pergola made of shell limestone, three swans (the swans were melted down in World War II and they were restored in 1945 thanks to a foundation) and water outlets from the fountain Bronze, bronze plaque with inscription:

“Albin Ad donated this fountain. Barth in the years 1932 and 1945 to the citizens of the city of Zwickau / Saxony “, a round fountain arranged in the middle and surrounded by a pergola consisting of two semicircular parts, as well as a staircase in the south and a wall with a view of the Schwanenteichpark, today a view of the VVN memorial, large green and Rhododendrons preserved from the original planting, large green mostly oak, also ash and maple

The Schwanenteichpark - description of the facility:

· SachsenGrün. Historic gardens and parks. ed. v. State palaces, castles and gardens of Saxony, pp. 151, 153: The Schwanenteichpark is the oldest and largest designed park in Zwickau. With green and water areas, it covers 41.5 hectares. Originally there were five medieval ponds in the same place, which were created from 1473 at the suggestion of councilors Martin Römer and Hans Federangel. The large pond and the long pond were preserved. The name of the park, created by Eduard Petzold from 1850, is derived from the swans that lived on the ponds. The monuments and recreational buildings in the park were financed by foundations, private individuals and associations. The topographical site conditions were changed by subsidence of the terrain as a result of the coal mining. In the 20th century the park was given the character of a “people's park” through the construction of an open-air stage, an animal enclosure, a boat mooring station, as well as the arrangement of play and sports equipment and lighting. The "swan castle" was demolished in 1993, which meant that an important reference point for the complex was lost.

· Rohde, Michael: From Muskau to Constantinople. Dresden 1998, p. 125 ff: On July 27, 1850, at the instigation of the industrialist Fikentscher, the Zwickau City Council decided to use the area around the Swan Pond (Great Pond) as a park by the then “Grand Ducal Court Gardener” (from 1844 to 1852) of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach to have Eduard Petzold designed. Petzold brought Julius Hartwig from Weimar as the gardener in charge. A “city promenade” was to be laid out, which Petzold wanted to expand into a “Volksgarten”. This should be done by including "all beautiful points in the area through suitable clearings (in the) public facility". The central point of the complex was the "Swan Castle" built in 1836. From here there were important lines of sight to the northeastern buildings of the city. The paths surround the pond, open up the terrain in curved lines, lead to three landing sites and lead to elongated dams. The east side is limited to the city by a hawthorn avenue, for which he (Petzold) provided red or rose-blooming Crataegus oxyacanth "Rúbra Pléna". The plantings shield the park from the surrounding area, form parking spaces and mainly serve as a backdrop for the many viewing paths. Within the facility, Petzold offered z. On the south side, for example, a line of sight over a kind of valley, which he encompassed by two “resting places with benches” (p. 25). After the gardener Julius Hartwig left, Petzold entrusted the art gardener Seidel with the management of the work in Zwickau. He also ran a commercial gardening business on a plot of land bought by Petzold above the swan pond.

In 1853 a Crataegus avenue was planted on the east dam. 84 trees with a trunk height of 2m were planted 50 cm apart. These trees should not get too tall so as not to obstruct important visual relationships. In 1866, Petzold received another contract after he had pointed out the park's lack of maintenance during a private visit to Zwickau. Petzold prepared a report on the Schwanenteichpark (see city archive: StA Zwickau, 1865, Sig. III n / 3 number 26 IV Bl. 100 - 107 r). This report shows that Petzold was planning to expand the facility in a northerly and easterly direction (following on from Weißdorn-Allee to today's Humboldtstrasse, which was then known as "Gürtelstrasse" and was designed).

In the old part of the park, willows, ash trees or swamp oaks dominate ("woods of the meadow character"). In the new area close to the city there are also conifers. In addition to information on planting, Petzold's report from 1866 also contained information on maintaining the complex.

· Bretschneider, Christa: Monument conservation framework objective for the Schwanenteichpark Zwickau. 1991. Cultural and historical significance of the park: The Schwanenteichpark, in its original form and use, is exemplary for the garden art of the 19th century, it combines all the features of a city park from the time it was built. The park was an area of contemplative use, aesthetic observation and communication, which, designed around a representative park restaurant, also suitable for large celebrations, the Swan Castle, offered a combination of joint aesthetic and physical delights. The area around the said restaurant, the main focal point within the park, is essentially landscaped and, in contrast to comparable facilities of that time, only contains a regularly designed section in the form of an avenue. The paths open up, including the Crataegusallee, encircling the facility and invite you to take a leisurely stroll and experience the park areas on offer. This facility, created in the middle of the last century (19th century) by Eduard Petzold in Zwickau, in its original form limited to the area around the swan pond, corresponds with its simple landscape design that extends right up to the terrace of the restaurant - seating for to be seen and to see the city and the surrounding landscape, the ideals of a city and public park of its time, although in contrast to other designs at the same time it had neither zoning nor more intensely designed park areas. Only the Crataegusallee on the east embankment of the pond can be described as a regularly designed part. The facility represents one of the earliest public parks in E. Petzold's work, for which he supplied two designs (1850 and 1866) and whose execution he instructed, beginning before the designs were handed over. In the course of its existence, the facility has been greatly changed by means of epoch-making installations (monuments, leisure facilities, changed routing, road crossing), but original forms of design can still be seen today, especially south and west of the pond. Since 1935 there have also been formal design sections, such as the facilities at the Schwanenbrunnen and the music pavilion. Sculptures set special accents. The aforementioned swan fountain at the north entrance as well as ibex, cranes and vase. Furthermore, monuments such as the one for the fallen of the Zwickau regiment of 133 in World War I, the monument for Lothar Streit, mayor of the city, which was introduced before 1912/13, and the VVN memorial.

Routing and visual relationships changed, woody stock overgrown (1991).

Former "swan castle", park restaurant (broken off in 1993):

As a two-storey excursion restaurant based on the Italian model, it was built on what was then Hopfenberg in 1836 before the park was laid out and was inaugurated with a glamorous ball on September 25th. The first structural extensions took place in 1854. 1902/03 erection of a column colonnade, thereby enlarging the hall on the upper floor and changing the shape of the roof. From 1950 to 1977 it was used as a cultural center for the VEB pit lamp works and workers' arieté. From 1977 children's and youth leisure center. Demolished in 1993 due to the poor state of construction. Adequate rebuilding of the site is of great importance for the effect of the Schwanenteichpark as a total work of art.

The transformer / converter station from 1927, which has since been subsequently recorded (2015) and built by the municipal electricity company, on the corner of Humboldtstrasse and Reichenbacher Strasse, was demolished in 2016.

Factory owner's villa with outbuildings, orangery, park and fencing Scheringerstrasse 1; 3
(card)
1912 Former residential villa of the factory owner Carl Friedrich Leonhardt, architecturally remarkable building of reform architecture around 1910, dominated by the street-side entrance with driveway and garden hall, exit and fountain niche at the rear, facade design with stylized elements of classicism and baroque as well as art nouveau motifs, architects Lossow & Kühne, Dresden of regional importance, of architectural, artistic, personal and urban value.

Elaborately designed villa building, probably one of the most important architectural monuments in Zwickau. The two-storey, broadly laid plastered building with an irregular floor plan impresses with the rich and high-quality facade structuring elements and the balanced proportions of the building. The entrance area with its covered driveway / driveway is impressive. The facade is structured by various wall templates - pilasters and pilasters made of plaster or sandstone, bas-reliefs, a surrounding windowsill cornice between the ground floor and the upper floor, and window openings that differ in their shape and size. Their muntin division, but also their arrangement as individual windows or window groups, make them an important design element of the facade. This effect is reinforced by the wooden shutters with slats on the windows on the upper floor. On the garden side there are single-storey verandas in front of the building, which have the same design elements. There are also generous terraced balconies with stone parapets above these. The house is rounded off by a well-proportioned mansard hipped roof with semicircular, individually standing dormers. The double-leaf oak front door was retained in its original form. The door panels are decorated with high quality carvings. Above the door there is a sandstone relief with two putti and a coat of arms labeled "ANNO 1912". Inside, high-quality furnishings have been preserved. This includes the dining room with original wall paneling, a large mirror made of facetted individual parts and integrated paintings (oil on canvas - including a copy of Rembrandt's self-portrait with Saskia), a spacious vestibule with rich marble furnishings. In 1995, the stairwell was partially restored, with some of it being given an analogue version. In 1996 the facade and the copper roof were renovated. A door was also uncovered and restored. The panels of this door were painted. In 2001 a wall frieze with mythological representations was restored (in the attic in the former girls' room).

Outbuildings: with an irregular floor plan with two garages. In the building there were apartments for employees (including the apartment of the former driver Paul Möckel). The orangery, a single-storey plastered building, which is characterized by high lattice-split arched windows and a high mansard roof, was attached to this building. Inside this building there are still remnants of the painting, which were partially restored during the renovation of the building in 1999.

Park: framed by an original wrought iron fence. In the park, old trees, rhododendrons and dividing wall with oval barred openings between the paved driveway to the outbuilding and the garden.

1898 Typical industrial plant of a branch of industry of regional historical importance, particularly widespread in the Vogtland.

The exterior of the building complex shows the typical industrial architecture of the turn of the century. These characteristic and architecturally designed factory buildings shaped an entire industrial landscape, especially at the textile locations in the Upper Ore Mountains and in the Vogtland. The design of the spacious weaving mills represents entire production processes. They are significant from a historical, scientific and urban planning point of view. The meaning for the environment and the representation of an epoch have meaning for a cultural landscape and a high experience and memory value. The outer facades have particular architectural importance in their structure, window divisions and window divisions, as well as the facade elements structured differently with shaped stones. Simple factory building, structurally also changed, especially the window openings, no supraregional significance in terms of building history.
