There are 100 historic structures on the List of Listed Buildings in Crawley . The Borough of Crawley includes the city of the same name and is about halfway between London and Brighton. Crawley was designated a New Town after the Second World War by the New Towns Act 1946 and although it grew considerably, many older buildings were still preserved.

In England, buildings or other structures are considered listed when they are placed on an official list of structures of "special architectural or historical importance by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 Interest ”. English Heritage , a non-governmental public body, is acting as agent for the Ministry to handle this registration process and advising the Ministry on any issues that may arise in this regard. There are three different classifications: Grade I for structures of "exceptional interest", Grade II * for "particularly important structures of more than special interest" and Grade II for structures of "special interest".

Crawley has three Grade I structures , twelve Grade II * and 85 Grade II structures. All three buildings in Grade I are houses of God; Churches and farmhouses are common on the list. Other structures identified as important include a signal box , watermill and The Beehive - a "revolutionary" rotunda that was the original terminal building at Gatwick Airport and the world's first fully integrated terminal building.

The design of the New Town was based on a series of independent residential quarters, which were arranged around the city center with shops and administration. Today there are 13 neighborhoods in Crawley. In Pound Hill and Ifield , both old towns that were absorbed by post-war development, 28 and 24 buildings, respectively, are classified as historically or architecturally significant. In Northgate there are 18 such buildings, including a large part of the town center on the old High Street and in Langley Green 15 buildings are registered- There are also six listed buildings in West Green , two each in Bewbush and Southgate and one each in Broadfield ( Broadfield House ), Gossops Green , Maidenbower , Three Bridges and Tilgate . Furnace Green is the only district without a specially classified building or structure.

Crawley Borough Council maintains a list of all such structures. It was last updated in 2008 and is thus newer than the English Heritage database, which is accessible via the Images of England online archive , the data of which is as of February 2001 and which lists 95 buildings for Crawley. A house that was built in the early 19th century and known as Charlwood Park was given Grade II on November 11, 1966 , but was still part of the Charlwood Ward, Surrey at the time . Through the Local Government Act 1972 parts of Surrey (including Lowfield Heath and Gatwick Airport) were transferred from Surrey to West Sussex, so that this building was also incorporated into West Sussex and thus into the Borough of Crawley. The house no longer exists, but is still managed in the Images of England database.
