The mayor of Kötzschenbroda, Wilhelm Brunner, who is considered liberalist, tried in the early 1930s to incorporate Radebeul, which was smaller at the time (1933: 12,949 inhabitants), to Kötzschenbroda (1933: 18,909 inhabitants). He didn't succeed. In return, Radebeul incorporated Wahnsdorf and Oberlößnitz with a total of 3,309 inhabitants (as of 1933) in the course of 1934 . On January 1, 1935, the Mayor of Radebeul, Heinrich Severit, who was a member of the NSDAP, succeeded in incorporating Kötzschenbroda. Both cities were merged to form the district-free city of Radebeul and, due to the new German municipal code of January 30, 1935 , declared a district on April 1, 1935 (at that time already about 35,000 inhabitants). Heinrich Severit, Lord Mayor from 1935, remained in office until 1945, while Wilhelm Brunner, briefly 2nd Mayor of Radebeul, was appointed Lord Mayor in Pirna in 1935 , was drafted as an officer in 1939 and was seriously wounded in Dorpat (Estonia) in 1944. passed away.

The city's district freedom ended in 1947 when it came back to the Dresden-Land district . On January 1, 1996, Radebeul came to the Meißen-Radebeul district with the dissolution of the Dresden-Land district and was declared a major district town .
