List of city leaders of Braunschweig
This list shows the city leaders of the city of Braunschweig .
1807-1813 → After constitution ( foundation ) of the kingdom of Westphalia was during the occupation of Brunswick by French troops , a municipal constitution - justice (Justice) and administration were divided - with a Conseil municipal (local council) under one appointed by the sovereign Maire (mayor) at the Top.
1813–1848 → After the withdrawal of the French troops in the Wars of Liberation , a city council headed by a city director was set up - initially again, as before 1807, with a unified judiciary and administration. Ten years after the restitution of the country as the Duchy of Braunschweig , in 1825, the municipal judicial and administrative systems were separated - while the previous magistrate (already known as the city court because of its main tasks ) was assigned the tasks of a judicial authority, a new magistrate was established as Collegial administrative authority with a magistrate director at the top was created, but this is still under the supervision of the Princely Chamber .
Since 1848 → In the period between 1946 and 2001 there was a full-time senior city director as head of administration, following the British model, in addition to the honorary Lord Mayor (see North German Council Constitution ).
