Grave monument / epitaph, Gustav Koller ObjectID : 22189 |
Triester Straße 164 KG location : Gries |
The monumental crypt was built by the Graz sculptor August Rantz for the car manufacturer Gustav Koller (1842–1910) in antique forms. The centrally placed sarcophagus on a pedestal is surrounded by a semicircular stone enclosure and can be reached via two side stairs. The relief of the sarcophagus shows depictions around the theme of ancient chariot races - a homage to the profession of the buried. The relief on the long side shows the time immediately before a chariot race, the side reliefs show men forging a wheel or shoeing a horse's hoof. Two lanterns rest on pedestals, each showing an angel with a lowered torch and a lowered trumpet - both symbols of death and transience. The grave monument has since been sold. |
