Location Lister harbor

The Lister port in List on Sylt is the northernmost port in Germany .

geography

The port is located on the east side of Sylt and is therefore not exposed to the swell of the North Sea . Since the construction of the Hindenburg dam and the Rømødæmningen , it can only be reached via the Lister Tief . The mean tidal range is 1.8 m and the harbor basin does not fall dry .

history

The history of the Lister port begins in the Middle Ages as a stop on the trade route from Ribe via the North Frisian Islands and Heligoland to England . Due to the relocation of trade routes, the port lost its importance at the end of the 17th century .

With the settlement of the Imperial Navy at the beginning of the 20th century , the Lister harbor regained importance. During the First World War , naval units anchored off List and a hangar was built for seaplanes . In July 1932 , Wolfgang von Gronau set off from the then commercial aviation school in a Dornier-Wal seaplane for a circumnavigation of the world that took him back to List after more than 44,000 km in November 1932.

After the Second World War , the civil use of the port was expanded and in 1963 the Rømø-Sylt line was added. Just one year later, an additional ferry dock for loading vehicles was put into operation . The port developed more and more into the tourist center of the place. Fish stalls and souvenir stands were built and Adler ships offered excursions and adventure trips into the Wadden Sea . In the winter of 2003/2004, the port area was completely redesigned by the municipality and the residents. The old stalls were replaced by an ensemble of Scandinavian-looking wooden houses and the old barrel hall was rebuilt as a shopping mall . The port has been certified according to the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code for several years . The cruise ships Europa , Europa 2 , Deutschland and Sea Cloud II have already anchored in front of List and brought their passengers to the island in tender boats via the Lister harbor.

Transport and tourism

The RoRo jetty for the SyltExpress , which runs several times a day between List and Rømø Havn , is located south of the actual harbor basin . The rescue cruiser Pidder Lüng , the research vessel Mya II and the whiskey cutter The Angel's Share are located within the moles . The boats of the Lister Yacht-Club Sylt from 1967 lie on the floating jetties . The excursion trips of the Adler ships also start from the protected harbor basin. There is a slipway north of it .

The harbor forecourt is surrounded by various shops and restaurants . The Sylt Adventure Center is behind the car park . The Lister Hafen is the terminus of SVG Line 1 and a stop on the Sylt island tours.
