Lloyd Gough

Lloyd Gough (born September 21, 1907 in New York City , New York , † July 23, 1984 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Gough began his career in the theater. Between 1934 and 1948 he was engaged almost continuously on Broadway , after which he moved to Hollywood to pursue a film career there. He was married to actress Karen Morley since 1942 . Until 1952 he played numerous film roles, including in All My Sons , Tear Up and Boulevard of Twilight . His career came to an abrupt end when he and his wife had to appear before the Committee on Un-American Activities during the McCarthy era . Both refused to testify and were then blacklisted . As a direct consequence Gough's name from the leader of the was Fritz Lang - Westerns Rancho Notorious with Marlene Dietrich and Arthur Kennedy deleted.

Gough reappeared on Broadway for the rest of the 1950s, including in 157 performances of Ondine alongside Mel Ferrer and Audrey Hepburn , until he was able to return to Hollywood in 1960 after the end of the McCarthy era. In addition to feature film roles, he also took on television engagements and, after several guest roles in series such as Auf der Flucht and FBI, received the role of reporter Michael Axford in the series Green Hornet with Bruce Lee . In 1976 he played in the comedy Der Strohmann alongside numerous other actors such as Zero Mostel and Herschel Bernardi, who were banned from their profession at the time .
