The sailing ship Lovis is a former steamship called Malmö and was rebuilt as a gaff ketch based on the model of the almost identical cargo logger Wilhelm Lühring in the years 1998-2000 . The North Sea and the Baltic Sea are your sailing areas . The home port of the Lovis is Greifswald .

In July 2013, the Lovis in the Greifswald museum harbor had expired on June 30th due to the lack of the controversial safety certificate for traditional ships. Since July 25, 2013, an operating permit from the ship safety department of BG Verkehr has been available again. The volunteer crew was strongly committed to the new Ship Safety Ordinance for traditional ships planned by the Ministry of Transport for 2018 , which would prohibit the operation of the Lovis and a number of other traditional sailors in their previous form.
