Lucas Eduardo Santos João (born September 4, 1993 in Luanda , Angola ) is a Portuguese football player .

Career

In the club

Lucas João was born in Angola and moved to Portugal with his family as a child. He played in the youth department of Nacional Funchal from 2011 . The following year he received a professional contract with the club, but was immediately loaned to third division club SC Mirandela for one season . There João impressed with 12 goals in 27 league appearances. For the 2013/14 season he returned to Nacional Funchal. On September 15, 2013 he made his debut as a substitute in the Primeira Liga . In the 2014/15 season he became a regular player and scored his first six first division goals in 30 missions. For the 2015/16 season he moved to the English second division club Sheffield Wednesday . Before the 2019/20 season , he signed a four-year contract with the second division FC Reading .

In the national team

Lucas João made five international appearances for Portugal's junior national teams. On November 14, 2015, he made his debut under national coach Fernando Santos in a friendly against Russia in the senior national team .
