Ludovic Konya
Ludovic Konya (born June 5, 1939 in Transylvania , Kingdom of Romania , † December 21, 2014 in Graz ) was a Romanian opera singer with a baritone voice .
Live and act
Konya studied singing for opera , oratorio and song in Bucharest . He made his debut as an opera singer in 1966 at the Bucharest State Opera as Valentin in Charles Gounod's opera Faust . He was a member of the Bucharest State Opera until 1971, after which he switched to the Hungarian Opera in Cluj as a permanent member of the ensemble .
From 1974 he sang at the Graz Opera House . He made his debut there in October 1974 as Lord Enrico Ashton Lucia di Lammermoor . Since 1976 he has been a permanent member of the ensemble there. During his engagement in Graz Konya sang parts from the French, Italian, Slavic and German repertoire. He mainly took on the great baritone roles in the operas of Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini . Konya was a singer who interpreted parts from a wide variety of vocal subjects. He sang roles for cavalier baritone , character baritone and hero baritone , up to bass buffo roles (play bass, character bass).
He sang the following baritone roles in Graz: Giorgio Germont in La traviata , Marquis Posa in Don Carlos , the title role in Simone Boccanegra (1982/83 season), Amonasro in Aida , Lescaut in Manon Lescaut (1981/82 season), Scarpia in Tosca , Konsul Sharpless in Madama Butterfly (1991/92 season; director: Peter Konwitschny ), Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana (1984/85 season), the two Figaro roles in Figaro's wedding (1985/86 season) and The Barber of Seville , Masetto in Don Giovanni (1986/87 season), Donner in Das Rheingold (1987–1990; production: Christian Pöppelreiter ), Baron Douphol in La Traviata (1990/91 season) and Christian in Un ballo in maschera (1992/93 season) .
He sang in the bass buffo category in Graz a. a. Kezal in The Bartered Bride , Dulcamara in Der Liebestrank (premiere: 1981/82 season), Fra Melitone in Die Macht des Schicksals , the monk Warlaam in Boris Godunow (1986/87 season) and Benoit in La Bohème (1996/97 season) .
In the 1980/81 season he took on the role of the violin virtuoso Daniello in a production of the rarely performed opera Jonny plays on (premiere: October 1980, director: Axel Corti ); He sang this role in June 1980 at the Theater an der Wien at the preview during the Wiener Festwochen . In the 1985/86 season he then interpreted the role of King Solomon in Karl Goldmark's rarely played opera The Queen of Sheba at the Graz Opera House . In the 1988/89 season he took over Lieutenant Zuniga in a new production of the opera Carmen (premiere: December 1988) and the role of Lord Syndham in a new production of the opera Zar und Zimmermann (premiere: April 1989) at the Graz Opera . In the summer of 1989 he interpreted the role of the composer / musician in the opera Prima la musica e poi le parole by Antonio Salieri in an open-air performance on the Graz Schlossberg . In the 1991/92 season he sang the bass part of Rocco in a new production of the opera Fidelio (premiere: February 1992, director: Hans Hollmann ). In the 1993/94 season he took over the role of the hereditary forester Kuno in a new production of Carl Maria von Weber's opera Der Freischütz (premiere: February 1994). In the 1995/96 season he sang the role of Second Armored Man in the opera Die Zauberflöte in a new production by Christian Pöppelreiter at the Graz Opera House . In July 1997 he sang the roles of Hassan / Burgvogt as part of the Styriarte in Graz in the concert premiere of Franz Schubert's last opera Der Graf von Gleichen , in a version by Richard Dünser .
His character roles included u. a. Doctor in Wozzeck , Pistola in Falstaff and Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte . With Don Alfonso he also appeared in a guest performance in Singapore in 1989 .
Konya made guest appearances at the Vienna State Opera as animal tamer in Lulu (November 1983) and as 1st Landsknecht in the opera Der Rattenfänger by Friedrich Cerha (October 1987).
His farewell performance at the Graz Opera was on June 19, 2004 with the title role in Gianni Schicchi . Konya lived in retirement with his wife in Graz and Hungary . Konya died unexpectedly at the age of 75.
