Johann Ignaz Ludwig Fischer (born August 18, 1745 in Mainz , † July 10, 1825 in Berlin ) was a German opera singer. He was one of the most famous basses of his time.

Life

Fischer was first a singer in the electoral orchestra and came to the Mannheim court theater in 1767, where he stayed for a long time.

Subsequently in Munich (1778), then engaged at the Vienna National Theater (1779), he sang with extraordinary success in Paris in 1783 , in the capitals of Italy in 1784 , and with his wife took an engagement at the court of the Princes of Thurn and the following year Taxis arrived and finally arrived in 1788, through JF Reichardt's mediation , to the Italian opera in Berlin , where he worked until his retirement (1815). Since 1779 Fischer was married to the singer Barbara Strasser (* 1758 in Mannheim ), who retired in 1798. Of the children from this marriage, all of whom went to the stage, Joseph Fischer (* 1780 in Vienna, † 1862 in Mannheim) and Josepha Fischer-Vernier (* 1782, † 1854 in Mannheim) named after their husband Fischer-Vernier called, distinguished by their vocal performances.
