Ludwig Hollonius
Ludwig Hollonius , latinized from originally Holle (* around 1570 probably in Höxter ; † 1621 in Pölitz ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and playwright.
Life
Ludwig Hollonius enrolled in 1590 under the indication of origin "Huxariensis" to study at the University of Rostock , where he was among other students of David Chyträus and until 1594 is documented by contributions to publications, evidenced in VD 16 . In 1595 his funeral sermon on the death of the Pomeranian superintendent Jacob Runge was published in Greifswald, as well as other occasional publications . In 1596 Hollonius was pastor in Braunsforth at Stargard . In 1597 he became pastor of the Marienkirche in Pölitz am Haff north of Stettin in Pomerania (the old brick Gothic Marienkirche was demolished in 1896 except for the sacristy and replaced by a neo-Gothic new building elsewhere). The Szczecin Council had appointed Hollonius to this position as the successor to the deposed Pastor Johannes Froböse.
Hollonius worked as a poet and dramatist at the turn of the 16th century to the 17th century in the transition from the late Renaissance to the Baroque in northeast Germany; some of his works anticipate later developments in the baroque era. In 1612 he was honored with the poet's crown as poeta laureatus. It is not known who received this honor and where.
His main work is the educational comedy Somnium vitae humanae . A copy of the first edition of this social-historical source of the first order from 1605, which was long believed to be lost, was acquired by the Herzog August Library in the 1990s .
