Ludwig Karl Count Folliot von Crenneville (Louis Charles Folliot de Crenneville) (born July 3, 1763 in Metz , † June 21, 1840 in Vienna ) was an Austrian general during the Napoleonic Wars .

Life

Louis Charles Folliot was born in Metz on July 3, 1763 (according to other sources, 1765). At a young age he decided to pursue a military career and was trained as a soldier in Pont-à-Mousson near Paris. In 1778 he became an officer in the French Navy, where he remained until 1791. In 1792 he was involved in the counter-revolution. He remained in the royal navy and was involved in various battles in the French colonies. In 1793 he became a cadet in the 1st regiment of the "Kaiser" light cavalry. In 1794 he was promoted to lieutenant and two years later to Officier d'intendance à l'état-major . Crenneville distinguished himself in Schliengen and Würzburg and was promoted to lieutenant.

In 1797 he received the rank of captain and was responsible for shipping Austrian troops to Istria and Dalmatia. In 1798 he was sent to Saint Petersburg with Ferdinand von Württemberg . After his return he was promoted to major and Ordonnanzoffizoff to Ferdinand of Austria. In 1799 he accompanied Prince Ferdinand von Württemberg to St. Petersburg again.

In the spring of 1813 Crenneville was promoted to Lieutenant Field Marshal . As a division commander, he distinguished himself in the battle for Dresden by conquering the Plauen reason . On the subsequent retreat to Bohemia, the division suffered only minor losses. In 1814 he fought in La Ferté-sur-Aube. He was also involved in the fighting for Arcis-sur-Aube on March 20, 1814, where the Austrians were defeated, and distinguished himself in the Battle of Paris . On June 1, the Emperor awarded Crenneville the Military Order of Maria Theresa . He was appointed 2nd Colonel of the Cuirassier Regiment "Archduke Franz" N ° 2. In 1815 Crenneville commanded the vanguard of the Austrian army in Piedmont , fought on June 21 on the Grande Saxone, at Meillerie and on June 28 at Saint-Genix and he also took Chalons and Lyon . He then withdrew to Ödenburg , but was called back to organize the Austrian Navy.

In 1823 Crenneville was appointed privy councilor and grand master of the household of the viceroy of Lombardy-Veneto , Archduke Rainer . In 1831 he was promoted to general of the cavalry and four years later to deputy commander of the First Regiment of the Gardes du Corps in Vienna, an office which he held until his death on June 21, 1840.

He was with the baroness Victoria von Poutet (1789-1887). Their daughter Victoria Eugenia (1816–1900) married Count Johann Nepomuk Keglevich de Buzin (1786–1856 ) in 1840 and the politician Julius von Falkenhayn (1829–1899) in 1857 .
