Ludwig Crato (Kraft), Count of Nassau-Saarbrücken (born March 28, 1663 in Saarbrücken ; † February 14, 1713 ibid.) Was the son of Count Gustav Adolf of Nassau-Saarbrücken and Eleonore Clara , née Countess von Hohenlohe-Neuenstein . He was raised in Neuenstein by his uncle, Count Wolfgang Julius von Hohenlohe-Neuenstein , and later in Tübingen . His father was a prisoner of war with the French at the time.

In 1677, when his father died, he inherited the counties of Saarbrücken and Saar Werden . He did not take over the reign because the country was occupied by the French. It was probably a thirst for adventure and the lack of opportunities that prompted him to enter French service. There he became the owner of the Royal allemand cavalry regiment and finally achieved the position of lieutenant général . During his career, he was distinguished by bravery, cold bloodedness and military acumen. So he took part in the siege and conquest of Luxembourg in 1684. During the Nine Years' War in the Dutch company of: the Battle of Fleurus (1690) (severely wounded), the siege of Namur and Battle of Steenkerke 1692, Battle of Neerwinden 1693. A short spell with the Dutch army ended the French king Louis XIV. By Confiscation of its lands. After the Peace of Rijswijk in 1697 his countries became German again and he took over the regency again. During the War of the Spanish Succession he was only active in an advisory capacity.

He was considered a good regent, so he could keep his country out of further wars. The count arranged the administration of justice and the state finances. He was charitable and reorganized the school system.

His successor in government was his brother Karl Ludwig .
