Ludwig gap

Johann Christian Ludwig Lücke (* around 1703 in Dresden ; † 1780 in Danzig ) was a German ivory carver , modeller and sculptor .

Life

Ludwig Lücke was born in Dresden around 1705. At a young age he completed an ivory carving apprenticeship with Carl August Lücke the Elder in Dresden. In 1726, with the help of a scholarship, he went on a study trip to France , Holland and England . In London he learned from the ivory carver David Le Marchand . In 1728 he came back to Dresden and became a modeller and successor to Johann Gottlieb Kirchner at the Meissen porcelain factory . From 1729 he was back in Dresden. From 1739 to 1745 he was a sculptor in the Royal Building Office in Dresden and worked for Count Heinrich von Brühl and Prince Christian Ludwig von Mecklenburg-Schwerin. In 1746 he went on a study trip to Amsterdam . He then went to Hamburg from 1747 to 1748 and finally returned to Dresden in 1750. In the same year he was appointed “First Master Model” at the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory in Vienna . From 1752 to 1756 he stayed in Denmark in Copenhagen in the service of Frederick V. In between he was in Flensburg in 1754 and in Schleswig in 1755 . From 1756 to 1758 he worked again in Hamburg and from 1759 to 1760 he stayed again in London, Amsterdam and again in Hamburg. In 1767 he was appointed art director to the court of the Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin . Around 1770 the company moved to Dresden and a factory for paper mache sculptures was founded. Then three years later he moved to Danzig .
