Ludwig Maximilian von Biegeleben , since 1893 Freiherr von Biegeleben (born January 10, 1849 in Darmstadt , † October 2, 1921 ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Maximilian von Biegeleben (1813–1899) and his wife Emma Elisabeth, née von Biegeleben (1817–1893). His father was the Grand Ducal Hessian Minister of Finance, a member of the Reichstag and was raised to the hereditary baron status by Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig on January 23, 1893 .

Military career

Biegeleben joined the cavalry regiment of the Electoral Hessian Army on July 1, 1866 as a volunteer during the German War . Here he was promoted to second lieutenant on July 29, 1866 . As such he took part in the war against France and became regimental adjutant on November 1, 1870. For his achievements he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class and the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Order of Philip the Magnanimous with Swords.

After the peace agreement , Biegeleben rose to prime lieutenant at the end of November 1871 and was assigned to the Hanover Military Riding Institute from November 1, 1874 to September 30, 1876 . In April 1881 he was transferred to the 1st Hanoverian Uhlan Regiment No. 13 as Rittmeister . Promoted to major there on April 8, 1890 , Biegeleben was transferred to the Leib-Dragoon Regiment (2nd Grand Ducal Hessian) No. 24 on April 18, 1893 as a regular staff officer . On September 12, 1896, he was appointed commander of the Lancers "Emperor Alexander II. Of Russia" (the first Brandenburg) no. 3 and appointed in this position on March 22, 1897, Lieutenant Colonel and on May 22, 1899. Colonel promoted . Released from this command, Biegeleben was given the task of commanding the 13th Cavalry Brigade in Münster on March 16, 1901 . After his appointment as commander on 14 November 1901 he commanded this brigade until 21 April 1902. After his departure, Biegeleben was chamberlain at the Grand Ducal Court in Darmstadt from 1907 .

He was the owner of the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with ribbon, of the Order of the Crown II. Class, Commander of the Order of St. Alexander and holder of the Order of St. Anna II. Class.
