Ludwig Walker (born December 5, 1879 in Schattdorf ; † May 12, 1959 there , entitled to live in Schattdorf) was a Swiss politician (KVP) .

biography

Ludwig Walker was born on December 5, 1879 in Schattdorf as the son of the innkeeper , district administrator and chief judge Johann Walker. He first completed the primary school in Schattdorf, then the secondary school in Ambrì and finally the canton school in Altdorf . As a result, he took over the management of the inn "Der Adlergarten" in Schattdorf from his father . Walker married Josefine in 1907, the daughter of the businessman and district administrator Peter Anton Regli. He died on May 12, 1959 at the age of 80 in Schattdorf.

Political career

Ludwig Walker's political career, a member of the Catholic People's Party, began in 1912 when he was elected to the Uri District Administrator, of which he was a member until 1930, including as President from 1919 to 1920. At the same time, he served as a member of the Higher Court from 1923 to 1930, which he also presided over from 1925. Then Walker was from 1930 to 1948 in the government council of the Guardianship and Poor Management and Finance Directorate. In addition, he served as Landammann from 1936 to 1938 and 1940 to 1942 . In addition, he sat on the Council of States for the canton from 1927 to 1947 . Walker was a member of the bank council and president of the cantonal rifle club.

As finance director, Ludwig Walker was considered economical and fair. During his term of office the emergency work during the economic crisis , the redevelopment of the canton's finances, the expansion of the Gotthard and Axenstrasse as well as the construction of the Sustenstrasse fell .
