Ludwig von Danwitz

Ludwig von Danwitz (born April 6, 1910 in Berlin ; † February 22, 1981 in Bonn ) was a German journalist.

Life

Ludwig von Danwitz, from the noble family Danwitz , grew up in Godesberg on, made in 1928 at the local Aloisiuskolleg his High School and began a study of German , French and history in Bonn and at the Sorbonne . Since 1928 he was a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Bavaria Bonn .

From 1931 to 1939 he was editor of the Westfalen-Kurier, then moved to Düsseldorf for Der Mittag . He was a member of the NSDAP and from 1944 Untersturmführer SS main office . During the Second World War he served in the Air Force and was a war reporter in a propaganda company . In 1941 he was with a squadron under Captain Fritz Fliegel based in Bordeaux .

From August 1, 1946 he worked again as an editor, from 1947 to 1955 as parliamentary correspondent and from 1956 to 1975 as head of the Bonn studio of West German Broadcasting (WDR). He then went into retirement . He worked in the propaganda organization Working Group for Democratic Circles .

Von Danwitz participated in confidential background discussions with Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and also accompanied him on trips abroad. One of his interviews with Adenauer was broadcast on January 4, 1961 on WDR. He was also considered a confidante of State Secretary Hans Globke . In addition, von Danwitz published a book about Rainer Barzel .
