The Luha (German Großer Bach , also Mühlbach ) is a right tributary of the Oder in the Czech Republic.

geography

The Luha rises in the south of the Oder Mountains , its source is west of Dobešov on the western slope of the Varta ( Heinrichswalder Berg , 590 m). The villages Na Čardě, Jindřichov , Pod Dědinou, Nejdek and Bělotín lie along its course leading to the south-east into the Moravian Gate . At Bělotín the river is successively spanned by the D 1 motorway , the Břeclav – Petrovice u Karviné railway and the R 48 expressway . It also feeds the two ponds Horní Bělotín and Dolní Bělotín here. The course of the Luha then leads through Polom , where it is dammed in the ponds Horní Polom, Dolní Polom and Heřmanický rybník. Between Blahutovice and Dub the river changes direction to the north. Above Polouvsí it feeds two other ponds, the Horní rybník and Dolní rybník. The villages Polouvsí and Jeseník nad Odrou stretch along the lower reaches of the Luha . At the northeast exit of Jeseník nad Odrou, the Luha flows into the Oder after 29.2 kilometers. Its catchment area is 95.4 km².

From Bělotín, the Břeclav – Petrovice u Karviné railway runs along the Luha. The R 48 expressway follows the course of the river between Bělotín and Dub.

Flood

During the heavy rain on June 24, 2009, the Luha swelled considerably. In Jeseník nad Odrou the level rose to two meters within an hour. Four people died in the flooded village, three of them drowning.
