Lukas Kummer (draftsman)
Lukas Kummer (born 1988 in Innsbruck ) has been a freelance Austrian comic artist , graphic novel author and illustrator since 2014 .
Life
Kummer comes from Pfons in Tyrol and grew up in Matrei am Brenner , where he went to school. From 2002 to 2006 he attended the Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium , in whose artistic department he passed his Matura . From 2007 he studied at the University of Kassel , the Department of Visual Communication with emphasis on illustration and comics. He financed his studies with a job as an illustrator and designer for the Mechanical Institute of the University of Kassel . After graduating with honors in 2013, he continued for a year as a master class student with Hendrik Dorgathen . After completing his studies, he worked as a freelance cartoonist and illustrator. He also gave workshops at home and abroad. At first he published a lot in various magazines. Since 2015 he has published graphic novels regularly. His work on Thomas Bernhard's Die Cause even got a small exhibition from the publisher in Leipzig's Moritzbastei in 2019 with preparatory work, sketches and drawings as well as a speech by graphic novel expert Andreas Platthaus (FAZ). The festival of graphic storytelling opened in the Kunsttempel in Kassel in 2015 with an exhibition of preparatory work, original drawings and sketches for his debut work The Rejection .
In his innovative project Prinz Gigahertz , which has been financed through Kickstarter.com since 2019 , the illustrator-narrator places a high fantasy knight in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi world of ruins full of mutants and misery. The demon chasing the hero through the desert is in itself an intelligent combat robot, the trap and combat magic is based on technologies that are no longer mastered. On the title can be seen that it is a present-day Prince Valiant - tribute acts. The chosen graphic aesthetic is loosely based on “Head Lopper” by the US draftsman Andrew MacLean , but appears quite independent.
Lukas Kummer lives and works in Kassel . He is a member of the professional association Illustrators Organization .
