Luke Smith (born August 30, 1990 in Jakarta , Indonesia ) is an Australian national volleyball player .

Career

Luke Smith was born to an Englishman and an Indonesian woman, but moved his family to Norway and then Australia as a child. He started his career at Aquinas College at the age of 16 and played in various youth teams. In 2009 he received an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship . He was active in indoor and beach volleyball with the juniors. In 2008 in The Hague and 2009 in Blackpool , he took part in the youth world championships in beach volleyball. In 2010 he moved to the Swedish association Linköpings VC. In 2011, the outside attacker made his debut for the Australian national team . With Linköpings VC he was Swedish champion in the 2011/12 season. At the Olympic Games in 2012 he was eliminated with Australia after the first group stage. He then moved to the Italian second division club Volley Corigliano . He only stayed there until the end of the year before returning to Linköpings. In the 2013/14 season he played for the Czech club VK Příbram , where he initially struggled with injuries. With the national team, he reached the second group stage at the 2014 World Cup .

He then moved to the German Bundesliga club TSV Herrsching . With the promoted team he lost eighth in the pre-playoffs of the Bundesliga . With the national team he took part in the 2015 World League . Then he was committed by the Finnish club Hurrikaani Loimaa . In 2017 he competed with Australia in the world league . In the 2017/18 season he played for Sporting Lisbon and became Portuguese champion. With Australia he took part in the 2018 World Cup. He then moved to the Turkish club Afyon Belediyespor Yüntaş. After the first half of the season, however, he was obliged by the Polish club Cuprum Lubin . In 2019 he played with Australia in the Nations League . He then moved to the Bundesliga club United Volleys Frankfurt .
