The Mäuseberg is 415.4  m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Stölzinger Mountains in the East Hessian highlands . It is located near Waldkappel in the Werra-Meißner district in North Hesse ( Germany ).

The Mäuseberg rises in the northeast part of North Hesse in the Fulda-Werra-Bergland , part of the East Hessian Uplands. Its summit is 1.4 km south-southeast of the core town of Waldkappel and between its village districts: Bischhausen in the east-north-east, Kirchhosbach in the south-east, Rechtebach in the south-south-west and Friemen in the south-west.

To the west-north-west of the mountain, the Rechtebach flows into the Schemmerbach , which flows into the weirs in the Waldkappel to the north-north-west . The east-running Hosbach flows into the latter flowing water . The premium hiking trail Waldkappeler Berge P17 runs over the summit, and the Frau-Holle -pfad leads a little east past the summit .

Parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Werra- and Wehretal (FFH no. 4825-302; 244.8191  km² ) are located on the Mäuseberg .

Natural allocation

The Mäuseberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Osthessisches Bergland (No. 35), in the main unit Fulda-Werra-Bergland (357) and in the subunit Sontra-Bergland (357.9) to the natural area Hosbach-Sontra-Bergland (357.90). Its landscape falls in the subunit Sontraer Hügelland (357.3) in the natural area Schemmerbachgrund (357.32) in the west and in the subunit Witzenhausen-Altmorschener Talung (357.5) in the natural area Waldkappeler Wehretal (357.54) in the north.

Pioneer tower

On the summit of the wooded Mäuseberg stands the pioneer tower, a 19 m high observation tower made of steel framework with 90 steps and built in 1965 .

From its platform at a height of around 18 m, the tower mainly offers views to the west and north, whereas trees restrict the view to the east and especially south. You can see the Schemmerngrund of the Stölzinger Mountains , the Iceberg ( 583  m ) as the highest mountain in this mountain range, the Hirschberg ( 643.4  m ) in the Kaufunger Forest and the Hoher Meißner mountain range ( 753.6  m ).
