The Mörtschelbach is an east and right tributary of the Ruwer near Waldrach in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Trier-Saarburg, almost two kilometers long .

The Mörtschelbach rises at an altitude of about 320  m above sea level. NHN northeast of the municipality Ruwer belonging municipality Waldrach in a forest on the southeast slope of high Büsch head .

It initially flows in a south-westerly direction through forest terrain on the north-western slope of the Falsemerberg and after almost seven hundred meters it reaches the outskirts of Waldrach. On the northern edge of the village, it runs along the southern foot of the vine-covered Hahnenberg and then disappears east of the cemetery path, piped underground.

The Mörtschelbach finally flows south of the Welschmühle at an altitude of about 151  m above sea level. NHN , verdolt and from the right into the Ruwer approaching there from the south-southeast .

The 1.8 km long course of the Mörtschelbach ends about 160 meters below its source, so it has a mean bed gradient of about 87 ‰.

Catchment area

The 2,002 sq km catchment area of Mörtschelbachs located in Ruwerengtal and Lower Ruwertal . It is drained through it via the Ruwer, the Moselle and the Rhine to the North Sea.

The catchment area on the upper reaches is wooded, in the estuary the area of ​​Waldrach dominates and otherwise arable land predominates.

The highest point is the Biedelt at 423.8  m above sea level. NHN in the east of the catchment area.
